It's already been made into a movie: Soylent Green But the novel it is loosely based on (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Make_Room!_Make_Room! ) has some interesting elements that are quite spot on with the current situation (demographic figures, declining infrastructures, huge gap between rich and poor, etc).

Damn, just when I start considering writing a book about it.
Apparently, in the movies, the Soylent Greens were made out of people! O_O
If they stuff that into the "synthetically" produced meats, I'd freak out. (Not that I'd ever know, though.)
      "Bread-Bread-Dinner
It ain't makin' me any thinner
      I eat a sandwich for break-fast
And then I have a sugar blast!
I eat toasted bread for lunch
      And enjoy my mid-day crunch!
      At dinner I eat pasta
And end my day with a sugar disasta!"

From the How am I not starving??? thread. Enjoy the read.

The description of this future world is very shocking... I find it interesting that people all have their own ideas of a future horror scenario... however my perfect scenario... getting rid of half the world's human population and have animals back where they below...
Which groups of people would you like to get rid of? Or would it be at random.

OP, your premise is ridiculous. I dare say in that worlde might he better off. There is still good lean meat, there is still fruit and veg, fat free dairy. Sounds kinda like my diet...

This is not going to happen, because mainstream turns back to the need to eat real fats. I read it in every newer book that comes out. It is a war on margarine if anything nowadays.

I want a shirt stating that. With Grok above it. :P

Might be, but I don't think that even scientists could convince my parents. They'd probably just think: "Yeah right, for 30 years it's been "shun fat! Fat kills you!" and now, all of the sudden it's good for you?! They're probably just corrupted by the food industries."

I doubt any of you actually eat pemmican.

There have been doctors all along the way who have been opposed to this whole low-fat thing. They will prevail.

Hmm... They'd probably just think that it's another fad. Maybe if you promise them a flat belly, they'd do it, but after they got the flat belly they'd stop because it's "unhealthy".

Oh well, when I've got my own place I'll just be an example.

                    I don't. Wish I could, though. Why? I feel like I missed something.\

Nevermind. Completely forgot about my own post a page back.

I btw have used pemmican many times as primary camping foods when I have to pack it all in, Just sayin.. Also this sort of scenario would result in many sick, depressed and fat people. The health system would be inundated within a few years of this happening.

Of course this would not happen because of health concerns but because the corporate powers that control the gov would know what kind of profits could be made from a sick and captive population. It is in fact already happening and we all know it.

Myself I would never abandon my family I would take them with me, teach them to hunt and we would all survive. Any fool who walks away from their family in that way would deserve to starve cold and alone. I am teaching my older daughter to hunt, my son is a bit young just yet and the wee bairn will just eat whatever I put to her so no worries.

A game we play as a family is " what if?" how would you survive and thrive and then we would choose a scenario and work it through.

                              Obesity rates would plummet.

Too late, already happened in the USA. This system would only exacerbate an existing condition.
