I have a funny rabbit story. Our son of 10 years, in 4H, decided to breed rabbits as a project. He chose Rex for their fine silky fur; indeed they are beautiful rabbits with lovely thick soft silky fur. My husband build a series of raised cages, about 3 x 6, for each adult. These were built over a future garden area; rabbit poop is fantastic fertilizer. Because our son was in school much of the time, the breeding operation fell to me.

It's a bunny, for heaven's sake, how hard can this be. The 4H rabbit leader showed me how to tell when a female was in heat. Apparently I didn't have this quite right. The first 3 times I'd go to the selected male cage, pick him up and carry him to the selected female cage and open it. Then I'd move the male into the female cage; the male is usually smaller than the female. The first two times went fairly well. When the male is finished he falls over in a dead faint, immediately. I hadn't been told to expect this, the first time I though he'd died.

But the third time the female was definitely not ready. As I attempted to introduce the male, she jumped at me and grabbed my nipple in a deep bite and wouldn't let go. The following actions were hilarious - and really painful. You have to picture this. I'm wearing a light T-shirt, screaming, throwing and beating off rabbits.

By the 5th time I approached this operation differently. I wore leather gloves - gauntlets really, that came almost to my elbows, a big black leather Harley-Davidson jacket zipped, and a bicycle helmet.

Our son did develop a championship herd that were sold at the 4H fairs for meat and fur. I don't remember if it was profitable. They were fed rabbit pellets and scraps from our cooking.

Cryptocode, LOL! I was watching some videos on breeding rabbits and the male falling over just made me laugh. But you trying to dislodge a rabbit from your nipple is quite the visual!

Who says back fat is a bad thing? Maybe on a hairy guy at the beach, but not on a crab.

Well - you're welcome. You understand, it wasn't really funny at the time.

In retrospect it was a lot like wiltondeportes film.

I didn't know it 'til now, but killer bunnies have to be added to my "list of things that make me laugh like a goober." LOL

                  Killer Bunny Attacks President

One fine morning Jimmy Carter was fishing from a small boat on a small lake in Camp David. Unknowingly, he'd placed the boat in the territory 'owned' by a swamp rabbit. Spying him, the rabbit slid from shore, swam to the boat, jumped in, and attacked Jimmy. By the time Carter was able to throw off the angry rabbit, a marine had swum half-way to the boat to rescue the President. The marine rowed the boat to shore and escorted the President to the medical clinic where he had several stitches for the many deep bites and cuts he received from the Killer Bunny.

True Story. Pictures were in all the national newspapers. ( My memory of the details may not be exact.)
