  • Paleo and Herpes. Eek, I know.

I wondered if anyone knew personally or otherwise if the Paleo Diet can help with strengthening the immune system, or suppressing herpes? Sorry if the question makes you uncomfortable, of course, you could just skip this thread, right? Any info. is appreciated!

Coconut oil is meant to be good for immune. Pretty much every vitamin especially D and A are meant to be good for the immune system. Also iodine and selenium.

Plenty of info on here, for vitamin A and selenium I eat calf and chicken liver, vitamin D try and get as much sun as I can, iodine I've recently started buying and cooking with sea vegetables. More fun than kelp capsules and a much more substantial 'dose'.

poor you, all the herpes strains cause more problems when you are stressed so I would think the healthier you stay the better you will be. The primal way of eating emphasises nutritionally dense foods so you aren't filling up on empty or non-beneficial carbs. It has to be better for you. Its helping me manage diabetes successfully and i believe its helping my body deal with cancer. These are both immune system issues. Id say give it a try- it definably cant make it worse
When I'd had enough of the grain and starched based 'diabetic eating for health' diet (eating for health, my ass!) my weight was 242.5 lbs. On starting primal- 18th April 2013 weight : 238.1.
      27th July 2013. weight after 100 days 136.9 weight lost 101.2lb ; that's 105.6lbs since I stopped the 'diabetic eating for health'

Herpes and shingles outbreaks can be avoided. A family member of mine had shingles and with some research we found out that it's best to not have foods that are high in L-Arginine. You can eat foods higher in L-Lysine or I guess you could supplement. Nuts and seeds are high in L-Arginine.

I second the coconut oil recommendation. Hope this helps.

Yes, it helps. I don't actually have the results yet, had to have a blood test done for antibodies. Looks like I need to cut out the nuts, which I have increased since eating primal. Foods with lysine, hmm. That's a new one on me.

I tried coconut oil and garlic but also I read a lot of about foot herpes (I have this one) here https://illnessee.com/herpes-on-feet-pictures/ and there I found good info about how to keep it low active

Not sure whether you will gain benefits for herpes, but my n=1 is that my immune system is generally stronger. Since going Primal in 2012, I haven't had a bout with colds or flu, and my seasonal allergies are much reduced.

I am stuck with herpes too. With the years, I have found that when I am tired, stressed, or that I don't eat very well, an outbreak is more likely. I am sure that eating paleo will strenghten someone's immune system and it may help to lessen the recurrence of outbreaks... But it's unlikely it can suppress herpes, unfortunately. This virus is dormant in our ganglion (nervous system). We gotta have a very healthy way of living to help diminishing herpes outbreaks. I am back on the primal train so, I will be able to tell you about this in a few months.
