A lot of the advice given is great for adults but no child should be expected to take on the task of stopping an aggressive dog. I've stopped aggressive dogs so I know it's possible but you have to have a very clear mind set and be confident that you are the dominant one.

That dog is out of control and the owners need to be held accountable. And Gwamma if you're concerned for your sheep then more needs to be done, fencing it in is an obvious solution as is shock collar training, but ultimately the dog needs to learn that he is not in charge. Where I live if a dog chases livestock it can legally be shot. BTW I love dogs, a rat terrier even shares my bed. But terriers in general are difficult to train so the owners need to be especially vigilant when it comes to putting them in their place.

smackos........ now there is a thought !!!!!!!

Urban Forager - I totally agree about the stock worrying - but I haven't caught the dog in our paddock. I am just a wee bit suspicious. However I am able to see the back paddocks from upstairs - so whenever I am concerned I do pop upstairs to have a look. As yet no sign of the dog in our paddock.

I have passed all of your feedback onto the Parents who in the interrim are picking Meesha up at the bus stop.
      thanking you all again

take him to the vet and cut his nuts out. That might get him over his territorial behavior. Either way hit him with pepper spray the next time he makes a threat.
Would I be putting a grain-feed cow on a fad diet if I took it out of the feedlot and put it on pasture eating the grass nature intended?

So my question to the group is this . How do we as an adult defend ourself against nasty teeth baring hackle raised dogs - big or small.................. and whilst you are at it - how does a child defend themselves ?????
Pepper Spray works wonders. No permanent harm to the dog and I can gaurantee that AAA will be a lot less aggressive in the future...

I dunno bout NZ gwamma but around here, "going to the council" means, "Ok so nothing is going to be done, BUT, if the dog is ever hurt, they will come after me now."

If you are wealthy enough, buy me a plane ticket outta Philly or Newark, and I will come and kill or capture or otherwise incapacitate the dog for you, and maybe the owners for a bonus. What if we feed the owners to the insane dog?

For what eternities have I wandered through them, a timid, hunted creature, starting at the least sound, frightened of my own shadow, keyed-up, ever alert and vigilant, ready on the instant to dash away in mad flight for my life. For I was the prey of all manner of fierce life that dwelt in the forest, and it was in ecstasies of fear that I fled before the hunting monsters."

OMG! We can make a documentary about it.

"The savage competition and rapidly crumbling ecosystem of the densely populated New Jersey wastes are home to many familiar types of human aggression...Ever adaptable, they have learned to sublimate the persistent rage of traffic jams and police harassment into various art forms of "competitive" and "violent" dancing....Watch as this New Jersey native teaches the humble islander population the fundamentals of moshing, a cultural dance of Mr. Perfidy's homeland..."
