The only time this holds up is if a kid is born with a major chemical imbalance, like bipolar disorder. In which case hitting them is even more retarded than if they were normal.

Yes, I'm well aware that there are sick men and women out there who love the alpha-male dynamic. Do you honestly not see anything abusive or unhealthy about that kind of situation?

Also, what happens when such a couple has kids? Do you think the mother will stand up for them when the husband turns his ire on them?

    • I pretty much mean psychopaths and sociopaths, who are a significant percent of the population and do not necessarily require any abuse at all to be assholes. In an area with high population density (where I live) 4% of the population = hundreds of such lunatics in a given shopping trip.

For what eternities have I wandered through them, a timid, hunted creature, starting at the least sound, frightened of my own shadow, keyed-up, ever alert and vigilant, ready on the instant to dash away in mad flight for my life. For I was the prey of all manner of fierce life that dwelt in the forest, and it was in ecstasies of fear that I fled before the hunting monsters."

I was talking about two consenting adults agreeing on rules and consequences. If both parties agree and no one is being coerced is it abuse? Perhaps. I am not a psychologist. I just think adults should be allowed to make their own decisions even if I do not understand them. I don't understand why anyone would want multiple spouses, or to cheat on their spouse, or to drive a Prius, but hell, this is America.

As for when they have kids, I would presume they would change up their dynamic to make it work. Much like two young married folks might f*ck on the kitchen table but would probably stop once Junior came along.

Maybe this is why I seem to have such a difficult time understanding where all of yous are coming from. In my house a slap can have the same context as a hug. IT DOESN"T DAMAGE PHYSICAL TISSUE PEOPLE. IT CAN't INJURE YOU. Chill out.
A slap CAN damage physical tissue and CAN injure you.
You are way off base there.

Black eyes, bruising, bloody noses... a week of not leaving the house so the neighbors don't see.
Or at least getting really good with make-up and trying to hide that shit.
In a small child fractured bones can happen.

IMO, a woman who would agree to that kind of arrangement would have be developmentally retarded in some major way, and definitely a victim of serious childhood trauma. And the man is preying on her broken mental state for his benefit. I don't see how it's any different than the way pimps and porn producers prey on women who've been raped and molested.

Do they have a right to arrange their relationship that way? Er, I guess so. But they should also be forcefully sterilized and never allowed to be alone around kids.

Don't get me wrong, I'm as libertarian as they come. But looking at a clearly fucked up husband-wife or parent-child dynamic and saying, "herp derp, let them do what they want" is a major fail, and a hypocritical breach of the child's liberty.

            • Bruises and a bloody nose and black eyes are not injuries...They go away and leave no impaired anything after a few days.

Also obviously when I was counselling that mother to smack her kid as he attacked his brother, "so as not to cause any kind of physical damage" is implied.

You are off base. I can leave my front door right now and smack 40 people, and in 3 days, there will not be evidence that it ever happened except in their minds.

Sometimes the toddler gets up before you, sometimes you need to attend to the house, sometimes you're answering a call/talking, sometimes you need to attend to the baby. Whenever your back is turned, the kid ends up halfway up a wobbling book-shelf. The kid has been twice rescued from a shelf before it collapsed on them, but has never fallen or had a shelf fall on them, and doesn't seem to believe it will really happen.
The kid has been explained that a falling shelf will hurt them. Response: "not scared of bumps". The kid has been told they could die, but doesn't seem to take it in. Whenever your back is turned, at home, at a friend's house, at playgroup, at the library, at the Drs... the kid climbs shelves. You're scared the child will kill itself. It's a cause of continual stress and worry. You can't take your eye off the child without worrying. What do you do to deter them from climbing the shelf?
I was a climber. Very young at the time though, probably under 2 yrs old. My parents would come in to check on me while I should have been sleeping and I'd be on top of the bookcase by the crib. They moved the crib, but I'd still climb out and get on the bookcase. They started waiting with me while I'd fall asleep and I didn't climb out after that.

I was too young to understand any kind of "consequence," sometimes you just have to wait out the behavior.

                • lol the anti-child violence people have more than once now advocated forcible mutilation of adults' genitals to the point of ending their functionality.

Injury does not have to be permanent to leave a mark. You are not making any sense. Bruises and blood nose and black eyes = something broken = injury.

LOL Well, that is a rather strong opinion. How do you really feel? Also, it does go both ways with the woman being the dominant one. My wife's ex is in such a relationship. Is he developmentally retarded? He doesn't seem to be. Then again, as I said, I am not a psychologist. As for forced sterilization, I have a whole list of people who need it so perhaps we should join forces?

*balls- unless you clap the ear. One of my brothers still can't go underwater because I did something bad to his ear-drum with a slap. It was in a "I mean to hurt you" fight though and not a, "I mean to impress terror upon your senses" discipline kinda slap

                          yes!

That level of lack of self-esteem is a major indicator of having unresolved childhood trauma. Believe me, I was raised by a clan of screeching harridans, and the only men in my life were ball-less cuckolds. It's taken every bit of effort I have not to grow up to be either a misogynistic woman-hater, or a pitiful supplicating beta.

It really doesn't take a PhD in psych to understand the cycle of abuse.

By definition... bruising, bloody noses, and black eyes are all injuries.

And if you go out and smack 40 people I imagine in 3 days there will be plenty of evidence that it happened... in your own mirror in the bruising you see there. Or in the photos filed in the police reports. Because violence begets violence...

I see so it is wrong to teach ignorant children the basic structure of reality (regarding the relationships between forces of different magnitudes), but it seems to be the default with you anti-hitting people to immediately threaten adults with being beaten by cops.
