    Do you live/sleep alone...?

    has no one asked this?
"Ah, those endless forests, and their horror-haunted gloom! For what eternities have I wandered through them, a timid, hunted creature, starting at the least sound, frightened of my own shadow, keyed-up, ever alert and vigilant, ready on the instant to dash away in mad flight for my life. For I was the prey of all manner of fierce life that dwelt in the forest, and it was in ecstasies of fear that I fled before the hunting monsters."

I've never had eczema. I used to have terribly dry skin head to toe, and KP on my upper arms & legs. All disappeared with primal, and my hands are still smoother than any hands I've ever seen before, let alone how my own used to be. The knuckles aren't dry; nothing is dry. They're perfectly soft & silky.

      Just with paper cuts!

Yes, probably my husband is paper cutting me while I sleep. Sheesh.

That sounds pretty like me. I got one of those red cuts around Christmas time when I wasn't being very Primal (the knuckles don't have to be dry for me to get it). Basically, in my experience it was dietary. Did you eat anything recently that may have had gluten or soy in it without you realising?
"I think the basic anti-aging diet is also the best diet for prevention and treatment of diabetes, scleroderma, and the various "connective tissue diseases." This would emphasize high protein, low unsaturated fats, low iron, and high antioxidant consumption, with a moderate or low starch consumption.

In practice, this means that a major part of the diet should be milk, cheese, eggs, shellfish, fruits and coconut oil, with vitamin E and salt as the safest supplements."

It's certainly possible I unknowingly was glutened. I want to think along the lines of things like this that seem possible.

I never had this happen back when I ate CW healthy (7-11 svg whole grains/day!) or even when I was 80/20, though. It's not in my history (the paper cuts). I wonder very much what the mechanism would be.

What I *do* know is that the standard answer given to everyone asking this question out in internetland is "Your skin is just cracking because it's too dry. Drink more water." I used to get cracked skin from dryness, but that was quite different from this. That's clearly not what's going on here.

IMO it's definitely not a hydration thing. People pin every skin condition down to water consumption! I drank so much bloody water when I was a vegan and couldn't understand why my skin was like tissue paper...

Anyway, my rudimentary understanding is that, like any chemical equation, different combinations of factors will have different effects on your physiology. In the past, gluten may have had one effect on you because of the other things you were doing. Change the other factors, add a dash of gluten, and the result may be different.

I've heard of a somewhat similar affliction that mainly affects teenage boys, but papercut-like wounds would suggest that they're just flat out doing it wrong.

My daughter had what we're pretty sure was a fungal infection during which there were deep cracks on the palms of her hands, but I don't believe she ever had any on her fingers.

                I bet that it's a plastic tag-loop leftover thing on a pillow-case or near your husband's schlong.

                  yeah you are

Baby if you time travel back far enough you can avoid that work because the dust won't be there. You're too pretty to be working that hard.

Once or twice, they looked like small (pea-sized or less, but irregular, not round) abrasions. Once or twice, I noticed them in the evening before bed, not morning. The abrasions I noticed because blood was dripping off my hand! It's always on the back of my hand (usually backs of fingers, not always in the lines), except once in a fingernail bed. They hurt like a paper cut and seem prone to minor infection. I haven't found any objects in them.

There is nothing sharp in my bed. My nails are short & dull. I don't cut. MY HANDS ARE NOT DRY. I've found lots of people across the internet having this problem, and everyone tells them to use lotion. Thanks to primal/paleo WOE, my lifelong dry skin is totally gone and my hands are smooth as a baby's bottom, not dry or cracked at all.

This has been happening over the last three weeks.

This is pretty typical of the response gotten on the internet (other than dry skin): Small unexplained cuts appearing on body (pic) - Bodybuilding.com Forums

So we are ruling out in advance possession, aliens, stigmata, cutting, & vampires. Anybody got any realistic guesses? I'm certain this is some kind of health problem. I'm on (natural) thyroid meds. The worst thing I can think of is parasites. :P

Old wounds rehealing... I have had some of these happen in places i know are the sites of old injuries.they go away fairly quickly and are mostly on my hands and arms.

I paw at and grab and rub and bump on my wife all night- sometimes I wake up mid-coitus, fumbling around with only half my brain while asleep- if the hubby has new PJ pants or boxers or something, maybe he is moving your hand and it's nicking those irritating plastic hangers-ons. I think an external, foreign object is a more likely explanation than a geometric bio-chemical reaction limited to one tiny spot on your body nowhere near any glands or organs or anything.
