Why do you continue to live with this person?
If I just said LOL, I lied. Do or do not. There is no try.

        You, "sure!"
        Pour yourself a full glass/open a can
        Take a sip
Quickly dump soda out. Upend the can over a plant, dump the whole glass into a sink, the intent is to give the impression you can't get it away from you fast enough. Spitting out the sip you took is optional.
Spit it out overdramatically like Allen did with the wine an episode or two ago on Two and a Half Men.

There are numerous variations on a Spit-take that could work, but that can feel tacked on.

I know someone who, when given a brandied cherry, just kinda opened his mouth and let the bitten-into cherry fall on the table. Plop. He then proceeded to rinse and spit, saying something along the lines of, "my god that's disgusting..." It worked, too...I didn't give him any more of my homemade brandied cherries. (Which were quite good...according to me and MOST of the people I shared them with.)

Exclaim, "yuck! That is absolutely awful! Who would make that? How can they sell it? No wonder you sere pushing me to take one, you're trying to get rid of it!"

That's actually fairly close to how I responded to one of those holiday sodas and I was being totally honest (and I like good soda).

For bonus points you can spend the next few weeks laughing about "Now with extra Holiday Chemicals! " in a faux tv ad voice and the like. If you dumped the soda over a plant, make a show of periodically checking to see if it has died.

A variation of that works on mac n cheeze too, but to do it right you must regurgitate the food back onto your plate. Tricky but it can be done.

            Yeah I'm an awful person.
You are not awful. You are EPIC!

            Do that. Hilarious! *hugs*

Some people equate certain foods with holidays. And if you don't eat that food, you're not celebrating the holiday.

In reality, the food has nothing to do with it, and they're just creating some sort of an excuse to eat even worse than they usually do. Really, holiday sodas? What the fuck...

Soda is sugar water. Take a glass of water, fill it with a few tablespoons of sugar, and ask him if he would drink that. The ONLY difference is added "flavor" and carbonation. It's sugar water, that is disguised with flavors and colors to make you THINK you're getting some type of nutrition out of it.

FWIW, I know of no more disappointing and overrated food than 90% of the Mac & Cheese renditions out there. It was probably bland and either greasy, overly creamy or dry. It's a waste of cheese.

I did that with kale chips in the kitchen last night... just kinda shoved them out of my mouth with my tongue then ran to the sink.

Kale chips are NASTAY! They had some free samples where I buy my raw milk and I about gagged. I was really disappointed since I know several members on here go ga-ga for them.

Kale chips are really hit-or-miss. I've made them twice. The first batch was glorious. The second batch got just the teensiest burned and they were completely unpalatable. I like the flavor of unburned kale chips, but they're so flimsy it hardly seems worth it.

OH. MY. GOD. Finally, someone out there who doesn'ty rave about Kale chips. I thought my family was weird. Kale chips was the first thing I made in the dehydrator, and we all hated them. I make kale into a salad or throw it in the soup. No kale chips EVER AGAIN.

I don't like the storebought ones. The flavours are usually gross. Made fresh at home in the oven with olive oil and sea salt? I adore them.

But other people here rave over stuff I hate, so there you are.

There is a group of people out there that get really defensive when others decide to do their own thing. They can really really wierd about defending their choices by attacking yours. Sorry you're stuck living with one of 'em.

I like Kale. I've never tried kale chips per se, but if they are anything like what happens if I leave kale in the pan too long, they won't get raves from me. The only veg I can think of off the top of my head that seems truly foul is raw turnips though.

No, it absolutely isn't. That's like saying people drink coffee because the flavors and colors make them think they are getting nutrition out of it. Nope. People have been drinking coffee a LONG time, they've been told it's bad for them and people still drank it, they've extracted the caffine and people still drink it, and that drinking has bupkiss to do with nutrients. If you ask most drinkers why they drink it, they'll give you one answer: because the taste pleases them. It is done for pleasure, for enjoyment, not nutrition. Same with soda. People don't see the color and say, "that must be full of nutrients!" They enjoy the taste and say, "I want to enjoy more."
