  • What is this pain?

    For the past 4 days I have had a burning pain in my stomach area.

    Here's what my diet looks like (not exactly primal)

    Breakfast:
    4 scrambled eggs {
    1 tablespoon of turmeric
    pinch of salt
    pinch of cayenne
    pinch of black pepper
    1/4 of coconut milk ****new****
    1 tablespoon of coconut oil
    }

    sprouted wheat bagel {
    1 or 2 tablespoons of butter
    some raw honey
    }

    coffee {
    heavy cream
    1 tablespoon of sugar
    }

    2 servings of almonds ****new****

    --------------------

    Dinner:
    meat (beef, pork, chicken) {
    1/2 cup of sour cream
    olive oil
    cayenne
    black pepper
    salt
    }
    carrots
    zucchini
    sprouted wheat tortilla to wrap that all up
    or another bagel

    ---------------

    ****new**** means I have added it in the last 2 weeks.

    I am suspecting that I might be eating a lot of fat. Especially coconut. I have once had similar symptoms after overdosing on creamed coconut. Could also be turmeric since I eat at least 1 tablespoon per day. What do you think?

    I thought it was acid, but I just took some baking soda, and that didn't do anything.

      How much cayenne and black pepper do you use? They can irritate your stomach over time , especially if you have some other new factors going on- such as acute stress.
      Could be totally unrelated to food and be an ulcer . Just throwing out a few ideas...

        Baby if you time travel back far enough you can avoid that work because the dust won't be there. You're too pretty to be working that hard.

            I would recommend trying a primal diet . You might be reacting to Gluten, and it could be worse with all the stress you have! When's the last time you went 30 days without any bagels or tortillas?

              Check the ingredients in the sprouted wheat tortilla. If it contained xanthan gum, that could be your problem. Read the label on the sprouted wheat bagel, too.
              I get horrible pain in my stomach from anything containing XG. Tortillas are notorious for using XG as a stabilizer.

                Eggs? Maybe try duck eggs to see if that makes a difference. Try the local co-op or Asian market for fresh duck eggs.

                  Okay.

                  I took some more baking soda and it went away now.

                  I think it immediately started the day I had breakfast for dinner. Meaning 2 tablespoons of turmeric that day. But I'm not ready to blame it on that yet.

                  I've been very stressed out lately. When I thought about the thing that worried me, I felt it in my stomach. I think that contributed to it most.

                  I hope I'm not getting sick.

                    Stress + the wheat but go see a doc.

                    I know it is hard to believe but even with the wonders of the internet we can't guide and endoscope down to your gut or perform keyhole surgery.
                    Eating primal is not a diet, it is a way of life.

                        This may not be what you're experiencing, but I get a burny stomach (no actual reflux unless it gets out of hand) when I have a bacterial overgrowth (unbalanced gut flora). I think Chris Kresser's site explains it best, but basically when you have an overgrowth, it causes gas and abdominal pressure and that backs the acid up in your stomach. The hidden causes of heartburn and GERD

                        I already take probiotics daily, but if I've been bad on my diet particularly with carbs/sugar (such as binging on Halloween candy, doh) the excess sugars/carbs feed the bad bacteria and I have to take extra probiotics/add in things like kefir, fermented foods, etc. to balance it back out. I'm working on getting rid of a flare right now.

                            Your menu has a lot of "style" to it. How much caffeine do you drink while you are writing code? And did you try cutting out the coconut milk and seeing if that helps.

                              I only drink coffee once a day.

                              The pain is gone but I am now experiencing a constant metallic/bitter/sweet taste in my mouth.

                              Sometimes I get very thirsty and my mouth feels dry.

                              What could this be? GERD?

                              It gets worst after I eat breakfast, never after dinner.
