  • Body Odor

This is going to be a really REALLY weird question. I have more faith in people in forums like this more than I do with Doctors. Doc's seem to know only so much. Both my family doc and my surgeon have no idea but have never been asked. Surgeon says, others probably have it as well but too embarrased to ask.

    Ok....drum roll..........

I had a total shoulder replacement done over 3 years ago. Since then, that armpit (my right) gets really bad for body odor. I can't go 12 hours without scrubbing it. Now, I've experimented, I"ve left my left side go for over 4 days to get even close to the right's smell in 12 hours!!!!! So, it has to be with the titanium etc in my shoulder I would think.

I hate to wear deodarant as I think it just cloggs up the pores.

Anyone have any ideas why this might happen and what I might do to fix it?

Thanks in advance to any and all replies. And thanks for reading an awkward post for me.

Well I have no input as to why it might be happening, but wanted to add that I also hate to wear deoderant. The trick that I have found that consistently works to prevent odor is to rub a little coconut oil into my arm pits, followed by a quick dusting of baking soda. The coconut oil prevents irritation from the baking soda but also seems to combat the odor causing bacteria.

Well, maybe it is BECAUSE of the fact that you scrub it so much? just a thought - there are people here that have stopped using things like soap, shampoo and deo as part of the 'no poo' movement. I did that too - for a little while, I stunk like a pig and my hair was greasy. However, it all eventually settled down, and I now smell much less than I ever did with soap. It's a thing about body oils that your body needs, but that you remove if you scrub too much. If there isn't enough oils, your body will over-produce it, leading to you getting smelly much faster.

But would not both underarms be equal? And again, only since the implant.

It's possible your lymphatic function is reduced in that shoulder. Have you looked into that line of questioning?

No, just a general question of "why does my right armpit stink more after surgery"....LOL

I use coconut oil with tea tree oil in, both are anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, but I look into the cause more if I were you.
