Has anyone had good experiences making it in an Aeropress? Bought some Crio Bru, and I've made it in my drip coffee maker, but I'd like to steep it more and get a richer body. Dr. Bork Bork mentions getting mixed results with the Aeropress....

I'm a big coffee lover and Crio Bru won't replace it.. but it is a great addition to my beverage world which is limited right now to San Pellegrino and coffee.

I ordered a regular old french press at the same time I ordered the Crio Bru. Worked fine. I guess an aeropress is similar to a regular french press.

Somewhere (it might have been at Chocolate Alchemy) I read that if you use a drip maker to use the 1-3 cup setting, even if you make more than that because it drips slower. Also regarding filters for the drip coffee maker, they recommended a gold filter, instead of paper filters, but I bought one of the regular reusable filters and it works fine. I also have a French press and that works, too.

I've gotten the most amount of flavor out of the smallest amount of CB grounds by doing the "cowboy coffee" method, just toss the grounds in a soup pot loose with water and boil. It doesn't get bitter with longer boiling just more intense. When you turn off the heat the grounds all sink to the bottom and you can just scoop out a cup at a time off the top.

Can you use a stove top espresso pot?

Been using my french press, and the only complaint I have is that it takes double the grounds to make a cup of Crio Bru that it does to make a cup of coffee. Otherwise, the taste is FANTASTIC. The closest coffee analog I've ever found PLUS bonus chocolate smell. Dear god, it's wonderful.

Actually *I* told y'all about Crio Bru. Paleobird just sat up and paid attention

I finally switched from Aeropress to a bodum travel press. There's a big difference. I highly recommend the french press for crio!

ETA: for those of you concerned about price, I can get 2-3 cups of good crio from 1/4c of grounds. Recently picked up a bag of Maracaibo and really enjoy it black.

There does appear to be a lot of waste using the french press, however, you can make another cup and still save the grounds for other things. Yesterday I blended up my grounds with some coconut cream, frozen bananas and strawberries and made ice cream. The other day I used some of the grounds instead of cocoa powder when I made those little chocolate mug cakes. Tasted less chocolaty and more like banana bread with a chocolate taste. I think if you saved enough grounds, you could use it in a meat loaf.

I'm trying the cowboy coffee method today. It's on the stove right now. The house smells so delicious!

Oh, cool, I have an African Grey that would love it as well... I know that chocolate isn't supposed to be good for a bird, but my guy loves it when he can steal it anyway... so what's the scoop on crio bru for birdies, safer than regular chocolate?

Not sure about birds, but I think theobromine is what supposedly kills dogs if you give them chocolate.

My darn bird likes everything you're not supposed to give them. She's a slut for avocados. There's no keeping her away from them. Those are supposed to kill birds, too. She just eats them even before they are ripe, just starts biting holes in all of them. If we have a box by the door ready to be taken to work, she knows what's in there and it's a fight to keep her out of there. As for the chocolate, she just really likes hot creamy liquid. You have to fight her if you've frothed up a foamy cappuccino.

This morning I tried the endless cowboy coffee method. I boiled three scoops of crio bru in a pot and after each cup, filled the pot back up. I don't think I will do it that way often. 1) I have to ladle it through a strainer because I can't just ladle up a cup without it being full of grounds. 2) I ended up drinking WAY too much of the stuff. Maybe there's no caffeine, but after 3 big mugs of it, I felt like I was overdosed on caffeine.

I may have to try some the next time I order from Amazon. . .

                                It sure sounds yummy.
