  • RLS and the primal diet

I have been primal for about two weeks now. I have had Restless leg syndrome for years and was medicated for it at one time until the meds actually made it worse. I haven't been struggling with it until the past 10 day when it seems to have gotten dramatically worse. My wife says its just about the worst she has ever seen it. Anyone else experience this when going primal? Anyone have any ideas what may be causing this?

    Thanks in advance,

    ZP

Eating primal is not a diet, it is a way of life.

I have a friend who has terrible RLS that was not helped by primal eating until he added in a nightly dose of magnesium. He uses the natural calm version - but too much will cause bowel issues so start slow. You could also try topical magnesium.

It can be very hard to get enough magnesium through food alone. I think that people lose a lot of excess fluid in the first week or two of primal and can lose a lot of electrolytes at the same time - so that could be why you have suddenly gotten worse.
Using low lectin/nightshade free primal to control autoimmune arthritis. (And lost 50 lbs along the way )

I 2nd the magnesium suggestion. And maybe potassium and salt may have become depleted through the diuretic effect as well.

Re-read the op. He said it has been getting worse.

+1 on the magnesium, and mine gets worse when I consume caffeine.
I wish I liked to eat liver.
