  • The Ultimate Test- Have you had any this week?

So, I have been 100% primal for 7 days now. I feel great, lost some weight already that people are noticing, and my confidence is way up. My one weakness is sugary breakfast foods like donuts, muffins, etc. Which i have been on/off craving now for the past couple weeks. I get to school today and in the main hall there are 5 HUGE tables filled with all sorts of donuts, banana breads, muffins, scones, pretty much an overload of EVERYTHING i want. This would not be so bad but when i walked over to speak with my friends they all had huge plates of one of everything, offering me some. My mouth was watering, practically drooling I said sadly "no thanks" and walked to class covering my eyes to keep from staring at the treats. I felt really good not giving in, I knew if I did eat it, I would feel horrible, stomach aches, etc. Not to mention my workout today would likely suffer from the carb crash I would experience later in the day...Have you guys had any struggles this week?

    Nice job... it's tough.

Eventually you will not view that stuff as food... it has no nutritional value... in fact probably negative value.

Props to you! My current kryptonite is Pho--the Vietnamese noodle soup. It's my favorite food on earth and I am missing it very much. i drive right past a great pho place a couple of times per week and i can feel my willpower wavering. if i get it, i will add extra meat and eat as few of the rice noodles as possible. sometimes i think its just the taste of the beef broth & sriracha that i want anyway.

Thanks guys! I know its worth it to just pass, sometimes that little devil on your shoulder just keeps whispering in your ear that 'one wont kill you....two wont...etc"

@Lolly- OMG i love Pho. I used to live by this great Pho place and ate it way too much. haha Something about that broth is just amazing, I can never replicate it either

              Good for you Athena!!

I love PHO!! A trip to my favorite Vietnamese restaurant is in order. I haven't been very primal off-late, I guess I'll make it my 20%.

Btw, Athena is such a beautiful name, love what it means/signifies.

There is half a raspberry cheesecake (with *sniffle* almond flour crust) screaming at me in the fridge. But I'm commited to no sugar (other than fruit) this month, and the cheesecake has sugar in it. I've been backsliding big time with little treats here and there, realising that I've been eating crap like a spoonful of peanut butter, but shunning a beautiful tangerine. Sheesh.

                  Athena,

Excellent work. Remember, food is fuel and that stuff is the cheapest and worst fuel you can have. You'll know 10 minutes after you eat it when you feel horrible and just want more.

Stay strong and instead make yourself a primal snack/meal when that happens.

                  WOO!

Today is day 10, I think. I haven't had to struggle with anything. I have felt so bad for so long that the amazing blast of well-being I am experiencing more than makes up for any desires to eat unhealthy foods.

                      Really.

How bout I give you the primal version:

                        1 cup of almond flour

                        2 tbsp butter

                        1/2 tbsp vanilla

half a can of pineapple drained. Pulse in the food processor and pat into a springform pan. Bake at 325 for 10-15 min.

                        In food processor combine:

                        3 blocks creamcheese

                        1/2 cup heavy cream

                        1 ripe banana

                        1 cup of raspberries

                        6 eggs

                        2 tbsp vanilla

Then fold in another cup of raspberries. (I used frozen)

Bake at 325 in a bain marie (wrap the springform in tinfoil and place in a large pan, pour boiling water into larger pan) for 40 min then turn off oven and allow to sit in oven for 30 min.

Chill for at least 3 hours.

My mama made the cheesecake that's in the fridge, and though she was sweet and made it grain free, there is a butt load of sugar in it.

As for light almond cookies, these look heavenly!!!

I am craving a soda now like you wouldn't believe.

Before I started primal I could down a whole 2 liter in a day. I find I'm not so much missing the taste as I am the "ceremony" of sitting down at my art board with a cold glass of pop or for fueling late night gaming sessions. Seltzer water and tea just aren't the same.

Well done, Athena. Show those cravings who's boss!

A couple days ago, in the middle of a fast, and at night when the carb-craving wolves howl at my door -- my wife asked me to get her a hamburger (bun-free, of course). Didn't know if I could handle it at first, but after sitting in that burger joint for 10 minutes smelling the lovely food, returning home, keeping my fast and waking up the next morning feeling great, it felt like a triumph over the devil himself!

Hi Lolly, I eat Pho about every week or two. I ask them for no noodles and load up on the sprouts. Still delicious. Salt doesn't scare me much. I agree though, its the broth that makes it magical. I've made it at home before, but it takes all day.

My last cheat was a week ago friday. Pizza. She'll always be my master :-) Only one piece though.
