  • Paleo/Primal Oriented Research Proposal

As part of a class this semester, I am putting together a research proposal and I wanted some ideas on an interesting topic that relates to paleo and, preferably, has something to do with the environment. What are some things you all would be interested in reading? These proposals need to be somewhat specific, narrowed down to just a few variables. Ideally the proposal would address some problem and allow for a testable hypothesis.

For example: Does manure from grain-fed cows pose a greater risk to downstream ecosystems compared with grass-fed cow manure?

    Thanks in advance!

Generally speaking, the grain-fed operations are on feedlots, and they literally scrape that stuff into holding pits. Grass-fed, pastured cattle trample the excrement back into the soil. That's just a real basic overview on your example...

As an example, here's a link to a Google Map. 39.243388,-88.481147 - Google Maps

Choose satellite view... and the complex you see is a farrowing operation for hogs. The dark brown ovals at left and bottom are ponds full of lot run off.

This is normal in large-scale hog operations.

Basically I am looking for some different ideas but something along those lines. I want to discuss a specific topic in which Paleo choices are likely better for the environment. I will not be doing testing, rather I will do some simple research showing a relationship. The goal is to produce an effective proposal that could be used to get some funding for further testing.

Like restoring arid environments to grassland?

the grass fed manure thing is pretty interesting. it would be pure extrapolation/speculation, but it would be neat to see what would happen if smaller, organic farms started to become more popular than the big agriculture companies. goodbye monstanto; hello trees.

and lets not forget the plus to the environment after natural resources are no longer being used to produce treadmills and elliptical machines.
