  • Hi Gals, Romance Novel Recs?

I'm getting a kindle for my birthday and thought I'd get some romance novels to get myself back into reading regularly. I'm not familiar with the genre. Looking for steamy and brawny not sickeningly sweet or gone with the wind stuff. The sexier the build-up the better, historical settings and adventures a plus but only as a backdrop. Who are the best writers and what are your favorite "primal urge" novels?

My wife ghoes nuts for Diana Gabaldon books. Called the Outlander series, there are about 6 books. She's read them all many times over. That Jamie guy in the books must be one serious stud-muffin.

Awesome, candice camp and diana gabaldon are looking pretty good to me. I do enjoy movies like Master and Commander, Troy, Indiana Jones, The Mummy, Braveheart, sort of the swashbuckling in-charge maverick types make me purrrrrrr. Would love stories like that with more steamy romance in them. Please keep 'em coming!

I second Fern Michaels. I like her "Sisterhood Series".It's about a group of women "done wrong" and how they work together to get justice for each other.

I have also read all Danielle Steel's novels.

YES. This. These are the best escapist reading ever.

The True Blood novels aren't half bad either. (And check out Snoop Dogg's 'love song' to Sookie, it's pretty classic.)

My favoritest summer/escapist/ridiculously over the top/sex thriller novels ever, though, are the Ninja stuff by Eric Lustbader. They are PORN, I swear. But they have a ton of very vividly described Japanese/Eastern cultural stuff in them. The writing actually isn't half bad for... well, trashy 80s novels, lol. Every used bookshop I've been to has a ton of them for pretty cheap. You can probably score the ebooks online for your kindle, possibly for free since they may be out of copyright now.

They aren't really 'primal' per se, they're contemporary (very glossy 80s thriller-esque high finance, espionage, martial arts, etc), but there's a lot of atavistic mysticism going on with the (constant) sexuality.

Anne Rice is pretty good too, for about the same reason. Not a lot of conventional sexuality there, but a lot of eroticism. Her early vampire novels are the best, the stuff after she converted to Catholicism are less fun.

"C is for cookie, that's good enough for me."
                          "Cookie is a sometimes food."
"Sometimes cookie monster eat APPLE instead of COOKIE. Sometimes eat CARROT."

Love Cindy Gerard (she's got 2 series Black Ops Inc, and the Bodyguard Series - fast paced very enjoyable, suspense), Roxanne St.Claire (she's got 2 seriers Bullet Catchers and Guardian Angelinos - fast paced an enjoyable, suspense) Laura Griffin - Tracers series (cop thriller, science & suspense)
Lisa Jackson - Benz & Montonya series (two main characters that show up throughout her books - cop thriller w/murder suspense)

Not sure if its on Kindle - but Nicky Charles - has a werewolf trilogy (usually not my thing) but I couldn't put it down... best part it was free on ibooks

btw all of the above have some steamy scenes...
next on my list is checking out some of Stephanie Tyler's work

Cool! I have some excellent recommendations for you. I just finished Mind Games by Carolyn Crane. It's the first in a series of 3 books. I haven't read the other two, but can't wait to get my hands on them.

She is a fantastic author with a quirky sense of humor. I think you'll like it a lot.
