  • how much do you eat?

So, iv been primal for 2 months now, i feel great, looking better. husband is on it with me and looking fantastic. My question is.. we both eat tell we are completely full, like we did before primal.. i started wondering, is this right? should we be eating 4 eggs and 3 pieces of bacon in the morning plus a huge dinner? or should we be cutting down, trying to shrink our stomachs? with our scheduals, we usually only eat twice a day, sometimes 3 times, usually on sundays when he has off work. what is your thought on how much you should be eating?

You should eat until you no longer feel hungry or are happily satisfied, but not busting full. The longer you're primal, the better you will become at listening to your body and knowing what it needs and when. Four eggs and three strips of bacon as meal 1 of 2 in the day sounds right to me, and that is enough to keep most people going for most of the day. If you start gaining weight (which IS possible, even on PB), cut back; if you're happy with the way things are going, stick with what you're doing.

ive found i eat quite a bit less then i use to before PB. id say stick with the big breakfast and then just see how it goes the rest of the day. recently i have been skipping meals entirely because im not hungry. i know a lot of people here do intermentant fasting (IF) and most of those people will tell you to skip breakfast but i disagree with that as i think there are quite a few good reasons to eat a big high protein breakfast. i think its more important then the other meals

going by what mark says in PB just eat when you are hungry and stop when you are full, its really that easy!

Are you and your husband the same size with the same energy needs? If weight loss is your goal you might want to take this into consideration.

We've been primal for 3 weeks now. We eat until full, and only eat when hungry. Ironically, for us, dh & I have noticed that our actual calorie intake has decreased significantly. I usually still eat 3 times a day (2.5 weeks to go in pregnancy), and sometimes 1-2 small snacks. The kids not so much. They eat about the same.

Started primal a month before the end of my pregnancy with P who is now 1. Went from a size 14 down to a size 4 in less than a year. Now sitting at 20-21% body fat, a solid 130 pounds, and 5'9". Feeling better than ever before, and able to run around and chase my 5 little boys who range in age from 14 months up to 11.5 years old.

Eating more protein and fat and fewer carbs will generally cause overweight people to spontaneously reduce calories, and make them feel full on fewer calories. You're getting more fuel from your stored fat and don't need to eat as much to meet your needs. If your body composition is changing for the better, and you feel and look good, it's obviously working, so why mess with a good thing? Just let it work for you, and think about making adjustments if/when improvements start to slow down or stall.

I eat until I feel comfortable, then don't until I'm hungry again. I've had a small handful of meals where I suddenly felt "full", and even with all of 2 bites on the plate couldn't even think of eating them - I take this as a sign I'm slowly healing and my body signalling is starting to come back.

I feel like I eat more, but when I look at records from past years I actually eat less, by quite a bit. I don't snack any more, I don't feel the need to.

Robb Wolf described this perfectly in one of his classes when he described what I call 'The Arch of Fitness.'

Pretty much, if you are happy with your current gains and fitness levels (assuming you possess 'normal' to 'experienced/conditioned' fitness levels), then keep doing what you are doing. Eat when you are hungry, don't eat when you aren't, and maintain/make needed changes to whatever fitness plan you are currently on.

If you have obtained your ideal body composition and an average/advanced level of fitness, and you wish to push yourself towards higher levels of performance/body composition (also known as 'Super-Fitness' within 'The Arch of Fitness'), then you should start concerning yourself with how/why/when/how much you should eat.

Besides that, good job and keep up the good work.

I usually eat 1-2 eggs, 2-3 strips of bacon (short 5-inch) , sometimes sliced tomato for breakfast and this fills me up. Sometimes I'll make almond meal pancakes and eat them with chopped, previously frozen strawberries. For lunch it's usually either a protein shake - frozen strawberries, whey, heavy whipping cream and a little water, or a burger on a bed of lettuce or lettuce tuna wraps, depending on how hungry I am, dinner is meat and veggies, sometimes a big-ass salad. After dinner I'll have 1-2 squares of dark chocolate. It's hot here and I have been doing a lot of heavy yard work which kills my appetite so I've probably been eating less. I tend to skip lunch sometimes and if I'm out and about will sometimes just grab a Lara Bar and leave it at that. I've started losing weight again after stopping due to less activity when I was living in an apartment and not being as active.

We eat when we are hungry and try to not stuff ourselves full. But it does happen. I usually try to eat smaller portions on my plate than before, but if I'm still hungry Ill serve myself more. I try not to eat beyond not being hungry anymore.

I'm stuffing myself 3x a day. Have been primal or paleo for years. I have to plan to eat a little less. Have this huge fear of being hungry. Certain foods are irresistible.. I've had to almost stop all nuts. I had stopped all cheese except goat cheese. But I bought some raw milk Swiss. It's going back on thedont buy list. I kinda have to get rid of the foods that I will eat too much of and not notice it. Anyway, that's me.

I am surprised at how many of you eat so little and stay full. Most days that's not my experience. This morning at 7 am I had a bowl of chicken soup with 2 chicken thighs and veggies in it, and two fried eggs. Was starving at 10 am so I had a fruit smoothie (banana, strawberries, frozen blueberries, full fat Greek yogurt, heavy cream) and 1 oz. dark chocolate with 1.5 Tb. of almond butter. Starving again at 1 pm so I had a huge bowl of beef stew and 2 slices of Primal "bread". I don't understand how so many people here can go on 2 meals a day and no snacks and not think of food. I am very active and did lift weights this morning, but today has been pretty typical so far, I will probably eat a large dinner around 6 with a snack in between. I'm only 4'11" and weigh right around 100 lbs., and I feel like I pack down more food than many of the much taller men here!

My eating has been a subject of discussion lately with my friends and coworkers. I don't usually have lunch until 3pm or 4pm, then have dinner around 8, and good to go for the day. Both meal on average works out to about maybe 800 calories a piece, comprised of roughly 25g of carbs per, probably double that in protein, and the rest in fact. It's easy to eat just until sated (eat slowly), and that's it.

I do get hungrier when I work out more. If you're losing weight, and not stuffing your craw all day, why worry?
