  • Does the Primal Blueprint help with severe obesity?

My sister is going to get her stomach stapled in the next couple of months, but I really don't want her to do it. I was wondering if the Primal Blueprint may be an option for her? She is severely obese, no diets have ever worked for her, and I don't want to give her a diet, but a lifestyle option other than the surgery. I was just curious if anyone else knows anyone or has personally experienced a dramatic weight loss following the Primal Blueprint?

Any information at all would be helpful! Thanks so much!

I know two people who had the lap band surgery. Both lost weight initially and then regained it all as they stretched their stomachs back out. One is now eating paleo and losing weight.

I'd say so. She couldn't possibly gain weight, could she?
Perhaps you could give her the book and request that she try it- properly and not just for a week- before going in for surgery.

PLEASE try to convince her to do this as a last ditch effort ... because the doctor is going to make her go low carb afterwards anyway. <50 is the standard with them.

There's a whole cluster of women here who've lost in the range of about 70 pounds (and still going), and some others who have lost even more. Plenty of guys with 100+ down.

This is easy and dare I say fun to do, as it's the way our bodies were meant to eat all along. It's not a diet and is easily sustainable. I used to be totally out of control with the food, and now the thought of food doesn't even occur to me until 1 p.m. most days.

Tell her to get her butt over here. We can help support her. Lots of good people here.

I started at 400 and am now at 290 after almost exactly two years on Primal.
Primal eating in a nutshell: If you are hungry, eat Primal food until you are satisfied (not stuffed). Then stop. Wait until you're hungry again. Repeat.

I've lost over 60 lbs since Christmas by going Primal. Women absolutely can lose weight on Primal Blueprint!! Even my doctor had asked me if I wanted to consider some kind of stomach altering surgery, and I said absolutely not. That surgery is lethal, it kills people slowly over years, its a terrible thing to do and I think its nothing short of a way to torture someone into controlling their food intake.

I still have a long ways to go, but I am on my way! My fibromyalgia improves tremendously when I avoid grains and sugars, and even after the initial drop in weight, I lose about 10lbs a month, fairly steadily. I've learned to throw away the scale, I've learned how to eat real food again and not panic. I now know what "full" feels like. Not the physical sensation of being stuffed, but my brain saying "thanks, we're good stop eating now". I understand now, for the first time in my life, how people can leave 2 bites of something on their plate and not eat it!

Do not, do not, DO NOT let her have that surgery, especially without giving Primal a good, solid effort for a few weeks. She'll feel better within a few days!!

In Feb my scale was threatening to pop over 300. Might have I did not get on to see.
Started in late April. I spent June/July overseas living in a hotel - hard to stay on track.

Just dug the scales out to check for you..... 253 lbs

So yeah it works and I am not hungry. Not a diet, but a change of diet.
Really need to get on track with exercising now.

I dropped over 100 in 5 months. At 340 I was very overweight but still able to start vigorously working out. I was lucky in that respect. I have known people in the 400+ pound category that just felt hopeless because they felt so trapped inside their own bodies. Going Primal could not hurt but in my opinion it is something the person had to really commit to and show s lot of willpower. I know what it is to feel like unless I ate until I was stuffed I hadn't eaten enough. For me the hardest part was stopping after a reasonable amount. We all have our battles and our own challenges. I wish her the best. My guess (knowing only what I read) is that she is hoping a surgery will be an easy way out and a get thin miracle. You can ask my overweight mother how her easy way out lap band solution has been. She has 10 years experience with it and is still heavy as ever.

Lost 105 pounds in 5 months
Currently 130 fat pounds down which is 120 pounds on the scale while putting on 10 pounds of muscle

Hi PrimalClay, I know I am being nosey and please don't answer if you don't want, but why has your mother's surgery failed? As I understand it the lap band reduces the size of the stomach, and it is physically impossible to over eat, is that not true? The answer might also be helpful for the OP.

Congratulations on your amazing transformation by the way.
