  • Coming Soon---Farm-Raised Tuna :-(

    I have to say, this sounds like a terrible idea. I know that tuna is being over-fished; but for myself I would rather not eat it all, than have one that's been raised in a cage. Thoughts???

    i don't think there is any difference between a barn-raised cow and a cage-raised tuna;

    i'm glad i can still buy some species of tuna fish in japan in an un-canned raw state, though not the maguro, which is far beyond my means

      gn,

      It just seems like this is a big step in the wrong direction. To me, it makes much more sense to do what we need to support the wild tuna populations, rather than to cram a bunch of these beautiful wide-ranging predators into a pen.

      I agree with you, though. It is the same as eating a barn-raised cow--- I'm not a big fan of that, either.

      For what it's worth, I can't afford Maguro here, either ;-)

        How would you support the wild tuna population? Tuna viagra?

        The only way to "support" the wild tuna is to cut down the fishing. There is no way in hell the tuna industry and the consumers in Japan, especially, will go for that. Even if they eat every last one.

        There are problems with farm raised fish, but whether to eat them or not isn't on the radar. You want no farmed fish? Cut the world population by half or more.

          Yeah, I just read where the world-wide sushi craze has blue fin tuna just about fished out. Sad. Once again, I think we come down to the fact that there are just too darn many people and not enough resources.

            What's wrong with eating canned sardines? There is no other practical way to get them.
