  • Pre-Primal Bloodwork / Questions

Hi. After lurking on here for almost a year, Ive decided its time to get REAL! Im going to be 37 this year and have at least 68lbs to lose!

I made an appointment for my physical -- I havent had a physical in a very long time!
I do manage to go for my annual woman exam every year

So Id like to ask if I should be concerned with my bloodwork prior to going Primal?
What labs if any should I ask to be drawn at my appointment?

    A little history:
I do not have any health issues that Im aware of - other than being obese
No diabetes - No high blood pressure - No heart problems.
I do not take medication for anything at all

I had my Thyroid levels checked last year & they were within normal range
I do have Mild anxiety / depression.
Im always tired and I CRAVE CHOCOLATE likes it my job. I wake up at midnight several times a week looking for sweets?

I crave sweets bad (chocolate, cookies, juices, chocolate milk, Atkins shakes)
I have managed to eliminate Aspartame from my diet - Yea!
I limit Caffeine to once a week

    Height 5' 4"
    Starting Weight: 208.5
    BMI: 35.8
    Hoping to lose 68 lbs?

    Thank you for reading!

I don't know about your bloodwork, but make sure you read all of the Newbie/beginner threads that are available, especially the ones about carb flu.

A few things I know from experience or that worked for me:
As for chocolate cravings, you'll know if you are craving chocolate if you can eat unsweetened baking chocolate. If that doesn't sound or taste good, it's just a carb craving, which you'll need to learn to ignore.

Start by focusing on whole foods- meat, vegetables, and fruit. No juice. Atkins shakes are not food. If you aren't hungry enough to eat an apple, then you aren't hungry, though I need to put some cheese or almond butter with that.

Drink water. In the transition phase, a lot of people confuse hunger with thirst. (I sure did, and still have issues with it.) If you are hungry, drink a glass of cold water and wait 15-20 minutes. If you are still hungry, then eat something.

Serve up on your plate the amount that you think you will eat. Scrape half of it back. Eat that and wait 20 minutes. If you are still hungry, have some more.

The best thing you can do for yourself is start by doing a strict Whole 30 challenge. It will break the sugar addiction (although the first 2 weeks are gonna SUUUUUUCK), and get you in the rhythm of compliance.
      The Whole30, Version 3.11 | Whole9 | Let us change your life.

keep in mind that whole 30 is based on Paleo principles, which is a lot stricter than Primal Blueprint. We are all here and cheering for you, so don't ever hesitate to reach out.
