  • When will my period come back??

I recently (past 4 months) went dieting before going on PB, this involved a week or two of bulimia which i pulled myself out of ASAP. I only ate around 1,000 cals a day. I havent had my last period since mid - February… I'm currently eating around 1,500 and gaining weight but im hoping it will bring back my period so i can try and lose weight again (the PB way). Any ideas on how long this will take??

    Welcome to MDA!

Are you underweight right now? And how long have you been eating primal? It may take a few more months.

I think it will be important for you to make sure to get a lot of rest/sleep while this happens.

What is a typical day of eating for you like? What do you eat?/What is meal frequency?

I usually eat for breafast, eggs, bacon, or some sort of nut butter

lunch is usually something portable like a salad, or turkey breast with almonds

DInner is like chicken breast, a veggie, and whatever else my parents cook
I also snack after school which is where im trying to cut back ( i binge eat )

I get around 6-10 hours depending on if it is a school night or not

You need more fat in your diet. Get some coconut oil, some good fatty beefs or porks in you. All that chicken/turkey breast isn't going to help you with getting your cycle back on track unless you get some fat in you.

It will go faster if you eat more - around 2500 calories a day is the standard recommendation for a woman recovering from a restrictive eating disorder. Make sure you get plenty of saturated fats. Don't worry about "bingeing" for the time being. It's a natural response for a body that has been undernourished.

                Hey,
Don't worry too much about when your period will come back. It's not necessary that a woman have a cycle every month (there's a Paleo-oriented female anthropologist who specializes in these studies and for the life of me I can't remember her name or website. But she's very passionate about us losing that concept of a "normal cycle" - under healthy circumstances, of course, which you're striving for) You're doing great. Just seek balance (as you are) and I promise, your body will reflect it.

umm, no, this is the same thing the raw vegans say. we are supposed to ovulate every month unless we are pregnant or nursing. not ovulating is a pretty big sign that something wrong is going on.
and right now you're gaining weight so that you can lose weight? and mostly fat at 112 lbs? i think you need a hormone panel and some therapy (i say this gently but truely) to see if you have some issues that can be worked out on your journey to overall health.
                    how old are you?

Being a fellow binge eating-recoverer, I can feel your pain. To your comfort, I can tell you have have only binged 3 times(!!!) since going primal, which is almost a month ago. And those binges were nuts and chocolate - NOTHING compared to what I used to, as I often did it more than once on a daily basis. "Eating a little too much" is not really ED-binging; 2000+ cals/uncontrolled/autopilot indulgence is.

First, if you truly have an ED (1-2 weeks don't seem like much time to develop an ED...) I'd also suggest professional help/therapy.
Other than that, I can't tell you when your period will return.

Get that coconut, butter and other fats in you!

This is what I get for posting a theory without backup...I get called a "vegan."

I kid. But the deluded, excuse-making vegan platform is NOT where I was coming from with that. There really is some interesting work out there suggesting that some people's biological paradigm will NOT have them on a monthly cycle, and the obsession with HAVING a monthly cycle is more an obsession with "being normal" (the way gynos will put a healthy girl on BC just to make her cycle "normal.") However, since I didn't post a link I certainly understand my words looking like vegan propaganda I will look for this researcher's work so I can be more specific. And of course, you don't have to accept what I'm saying at all. But I think the most important caveat I posted was - this is under "healthy circumstances."

Anyhow, from what I observe g3t has only lost her period for a few months due to excessive dieting, so it's very possible that it may come back with a return to healthy eating (as she's doing). A hormone panel - and the associated worry and costs - may not be necessary just yet. I just wanted to offer some comfort and say relax - keep working on being healthy - and you're probably fine. Which I still believe wholeheartedly, having been through the same situation myself around age 17 and again at age 24. This is a process, and many of us have (severe) ups & downs as we move forward.

Okay, i've added avacados and such into my diet the past few days in hopes that will help, most of the meats my parents buy unfortunatly are lean so i don't get much fat from there. Besides spending $8+ bucks for coconut oil what other fats could i eat?? I eat a ton of bacon too..

                            Isn't 2500 cals a bit excessive?! I'm gaining weight on 1,500

So it's okay that i've been missing it for such a period of time? I've been regular practically since i started and i'm really worried about the things that can go wrong from not having it for so like like unfertility and such
