  • "Primal" Documentary Airing Tonight in SoCal?

This sounds very "primal/paleo"--probably without realizing it had a name.

'Good Meat' highlights tribal dietary struggles - JSOnline

"Good Meat". The subject of the hourlong film is Beau LeBeau, a member of the Oglala Lakota tribe in South Dakota. Once a star athlete, LeBeau slipped into poor eating habits and went up to 333 pounds. Worse, his family health history included cancer and diabetes.

With help from his doctor and a nutritionist, who is also a member of the tribe, LeBeau adopts a diet of chiefly bison meat and native plants, including Hidatsa corn, chokecherries, prairie turnips and tea - foods that his tribal ancestors ate and for which their system was well-adapted.
    Airing tonight (April 26, 2011) at 8:00pm on KLCS (Channel 58.1 over-the-air).
    Vegan from 1993 until Oct 16, 2010. "D'oh!!"

Thanks for the heads-up, sounds interesting. The American-Indian population has been particularly hard-hit by obesity - starting before the current general population epidemic. They went from Primal to modern diet in a couple generations, not like most of us who had thousands of years head start eating grains and sugar.

        From the program:

Back in the day, when the Lakota were strong, there was no such thing as a fat Indian.
        Our people were not vegetarians...

I design websites and blogs for a living. If you would like a blog or website designed by someone who understands Primal, see my web page.

Primal Blueprint Explorer My blog for people who are not into the Grok thing. Since starting the blog, I have moved close to being Archevore instead of Primal. But Mark's Daily Apple is still the best source of information about living an ancestral lifestyle.

I watched it - made me sad really. Yes, the fat Indian lost weight by eating buffalo meat, but he isn't going to keep it up because of his circumstances - and what about the rest of the tribe on the reservation living on food stamps and spending them on poison and getting fat and dying of diabetes? Ugh. Where's the leadership? The change? Maybe reservations (de facto ghettos) need to be dismantled. I know, I know, it ain't gonna happen in our lifetimes and it's a debate for another forum. A crying fucking shame.
