Are you in an area with desolate back roads? That's how I learned to drive. My father was super impatient so my mother handed me the keys and said, "go drive." I taught myself.

Ooohhhh....when I think back at what I put my poor parents through teaching me to drive I just cringe. It got so bad that finally my grandma had to come take over. It took me three tries to pass the test

Just try to remember what a fond memory it will be some day down the road. Give him a little space to make some mistakes. I also think about a half a cup of whiskey before each lesson will help

      Good luck!!!!

Oh boy, do I feel your pain...my 18 yr old son was the WORST driver when he was 16. I couldnt even ride in the car with him, it was too stressful. so his Dad handled the driver's training part of parenting. And now, 2 years later, I can honestly say his driving is NOT BAD. He drives a big 20 yr old pick up that is basically a tank, so I don't worry so much.

Hang in there, Patty, his driving will get better!

I taught all 3 of my children, including 2 at the same time(twins). I did better when I saw them not as my children but as students needing to be taught a skill.

Heh, sorry Patty I don't know what to say. I was a terrifying driver when I first learned. If I could reassure you about anything is that after the first couple of tries they get better and it becomes more safe. So as long as you survive that your risk of death and doom decreases. If they understand the true severity of screwing up it is better.

Being the youngest of four girls, my poor mother's nerves were completely shot by the time it was my turn. And my dad just worked too much to teach me.

After nearly having a panic attack while I was behind the wheel, she decided to hire my driver's ed teacher from the previous summer, who was an old middle school teacher, to give me personal lessons the summer before my senior year of high school. I think he came everyday for a week or two and put me through every driving/parking scenario. I learned really quickly and since he was relaxed, I was relaxed.

I'm almost 27 now but to this day I've only been in one fender bender and no tickets, well save parking tickets.

So if you can't take it, hire a professional.

He`s been driving desolate roads for awhile and he`s good at those. Unfortunately we live in a city and he needs city practice now. He got his permit about 2 weeks ago...he`s 15 1/2....wants to drive ALL the time. I know he needs the experience but sometimes it just kills me!! lol

Took him 3 tries to pass the written part for his permit. Still don`t understand some of the questions on that test; I mean why does a person driving a car need to know motorcycle insurance stuff? I especially like your last statement
