  • Pushing Low Carb/Driving Co-worker's Crazy

    Well I can't help myself - I've been driving my co-workers (CW fanatics) crazy trying to explain the whole low-carb thing.

    I try not to bring it up but then someone will make some off hand comment about my diet and then I'll go whole hog into trying to convince them otherwise (they are set in their ways and don't believe a thing I say).

    It's driving me crazy too - anyone have any experience with this?

    Think of it this way: low-carb by itself is insanity. Why not tell them about the nutritious food you're eating? Vegetables, meats, occasional nuts and berries, like humanity has been eating for hundreds of thousands of years. This way of eating just happens to be low-carb, and is not low-carb by design, like some supplement-laden diets designed from the top down. I would try my best not to even utter the word "carbohydrate" in my conversations. Instead talk about the anti-nutrients in grains and the effects of too much sugar on the liver and tissues of the body.

      I usually go into a tangent about eating food that God put on Earth as close to its original form as possible. "Eating food the way God intended it". That usually gets a smile & interested look from my friends "Oh, that's cool!"

          Diet conversations are tiresome, usually - either you're preaching to the choir, or you're driving your interlocutor crazy. Most people who know me have no idea what my dietary philosophy is, and I like it that way. They know I'm a bit of a health-n-fitness nut, but that's all - the exact details of the nuttery are not very interesting to anyone other than me.

                Sorry..that would scare me off right away... Not sure if that is what you are trying to do!

                I just show people before and after pics.. That totally works.

                  hehe... I think I've been totally annoying all my friends at work A couple are trying it, sort of half-assed, but the rest just nod their heads and go on their merry way, shoving cookies in their faces.

                      Best advice ever... and it took me a while but I learned it... especially being surrounded by either vegans or vegan apolgists...

                        Just tell them you prefer to eat real food, and leave it at that.

                          My friends have seen the brain fog and mood swings I get into when I eat according to CW - they assume that my body chemistry is wierd and that this diet is the only thing that keeps me sane They're happy as long as I am, and I don't really preach to them. To me, the best way to make someone dig their heals in it to try and convince them of something they're not interested in. I figure, if they're really interested, they'll come to me with questions. Otherwise, I just keep my diet to myself.

                            People are really starting to notice the change in my appearance. The first time they ask I say "I mostly eat meat, vegetables and fruit". If they ask for more information, I give them a copy of Primal 101 and the shopping list. That way they get to decide for themselves without me getting a headache.
