  • Weight loss- Normal?

    Okay I'm on Day 6 of primal. I've never been one to weigh myself all the time and didn't even have a scale until yesterday. When I started I thought I weighed much more then I did so I am glad I got one. I don't plan on becoming weight obsessed but I'm really interested in how things work now that I'm eating so different.

    So yesterday morning I weighed myself. I hadn't eaten anything when I did. Just weighed myself again. There is almost a two pound difference. I tried it 5 times to make sure it wasn't the scale. Umm..okay. Two pounds in a day? Could that be water weight? Just some sort of natural up and down? Two pounds seems like a lot. Where the heck did it go? It sure hasn't come out the end pipe.

    I'm fascinated now.

    yes your body can fluctuate up to 5# in a day. I wouldn't let the scale tell you how you are doing I would let your clothing tell you. If you let the scale tell you you will get frustrated because it can go up and down.

      Since you're 6 days in, it is more than likely water weight. Like sghulett said, going by clothing and measuring is a better indicator of what you're doing versus the scale. I only weigh once a month just as a baseline only. Other than that, its clothing all the way!

        Okay cool. I didn't know it could change that much so fast. As I said I never usually weigh myself and do go mostly by clothes anyways. I also took some starting measurements because I much more interested in overall body change then just strictly weight. I'm just into figuring out how everything works. This whole thing has engaged the scientific geek part of my mind.

          body waste can cause an increase or decrease big time so remember when you do weigh yourself you are weighing all that too.

            I would agree with everyone that has already stated to not let the scale control your success.

            I normally weigh 209lbs @ 6'5" and it can fluctuate between 6-8lbs depending on time of day, water intake, sodium intake, diet etc.

            The way you feel should overrule anything that fickle scale says.

            Congrats on starting your journey!

              Water, glycogen, poop... could be anything.

              The hardest part will be not freaking out if the scale suddenly goes way UP one day. It fluctuates. You'll get used to it.

                Yep, out of curiosity I weighed before and after a #1 and #2 and it was almost a pound difference...

                  If you're gonna weigh yourself, make sure it's first thing in the morning after your daily BM. Do it nekkid. Can't get much lighter than that. Typically one gains weight throughout the day, thanks to food, beverage, etc

                    Thanks for this post. I'm only starting week three and was disappointed that I only lost 1 1/2 lbs. I want action, and I want it fast! Blah.
                    I guess I expected a bigger reward for my efforts. I need to be patient.
