It's just frustrating. I didn't think it would take me this long to get over all the crap that was associated with the entritis. Luckily the most severe symptoms, dehydration and anemia are long gone. So that's good.
my doc tried to give me free samples of the RX probiotics.. they did not have even half of the good stuff in them like you can get from quality probiotics. You are probably better off with the ones you have.

    glad your feeling better though

Thanks, it was quite the scare when I wound up in the ER with, what the ER docs thought was a GI bleed. I was mildly anemic cbc came back at a 10.0, and I was severely dehydrated. Turns out I had a really bad reaction to Pepto Bismol...Hence the false positive on the GI bleed. Since then it's just been battling this queeziness. I have been able to get back to running and lifting though, which is helping my mental state tremendously. Now just to get back a normal, for me anyway, eating volume.

      • Double gripe: The grass fed guy ran out of meat and that junk on my aunt's birthday weakened my immune system sufficiently to cause me to become ill.
In all of the universe there is only one person with your exact charateristics. Just like there is only one person with everybody else's characteristics. Effectively, your uniqueness makes you pretty average.

        • GOTD: Cracked the stonewear on my crockpot making bone broth
Replacement piece is only $4 less than I paid for the whole thing like 10yrs ago. Off to Goodwill with it!
Bought new crockpot w/ digital timer and mini crock included for only $14 more than replacement part.

          • Dear Overzealous Vets:

NO, I am not going to spend $300 on an ultrasound for a 14-year-old cat in the early stages of renal failure just to assuage your curiosity about what's in there. You said the answer would not change his treatment, so WTF? I realize my Jack Spade bag and debonair manners give the impression that I am made of money, but the bag was a present and I've been watching Downton Abbey. GIVE ME BACK MY CAT.

            Thank you,

Just went through the same process with our blender, wanted to buy a extra pitcher for it. Was actually cheaper to buy a whole new blender (same as the old one) and pitch the motor from the old one. Grrrrrrr....... was wasteful.

                  • GOTD: Dogs. Dogs bark. I get that. Don't even mind it most of the time. I mean, the poor dears are living in an apartment, if I can hear them, so they have to have SOME time to act like dogs. But when I get home from work and have time to take a nap I've been needing for two weeks and some damn dog barks for THREE HOURS . . .

GOTD 2: Just found out that the top two bosses got raises for 2011. They gutted our bonuses (for the peons like me) starting in 2011 and destroyed our health insurance starting in 2012. Really? And you bitch because I don't "buy into" your "vision"?

                    • GOTD: My plotter's gone. Until the office overhaul is done, I don't have access to it, meaning I can't hard plot and check my work without sending it out for repro. Mrmph.

LOL, my old cat broke her pelvis and they wanted her to go have orthopedic surgery from a specialist. Ummm.... then admitted that the surgery would probably be slower to heal than just mother nature and not really be of any benefit. I took the cat home, the (young) vet glared at me for being irresponsible and within a week my cat was jumping out of her crate and generally being active. Whe I brought my cat back in, an OLDER vet at the same practice was not at all suprised by how well the fracture had healed..... "pelvic fractures in cats that don't impact the urinary tract are generally pretty easy to heal up".

I highly recommend finding older vets to care for your animals unless you are a "anything at any cost" type person.

And hope your kitty feels better!

That's amazing about your cat with the broken pelvis!

Fortunately, my regular vet is very good. I'd gone to a special clinic to get an evaluation on the I-31 thyroid procedure for The Great Pumpkin, but he isn't a good candidate with the renal issue. Now they want me to give him sub-cutaneous fluids myself 2-3 times a week. He's a very timid cat and if he associates me with Needle Time, he'll just bolt whenever he sees me.

I think that I'd rather have his last few months be comfortable, and when he starts failing, just put him down. Keeping him alive for a little extra time by chasing him around the block (he's an outside cat) to pin him down and stick him with a needle will make us both miserable. Ugh, cats getting old sucks.
