  • RE: body changes and body fat

For as long as I can remember, I have thought I was fat. Then later, when I was even fatter, I would look back at pictures and think "wow, I was really thin back then".

Since starting PB, I have lost enough weight that I am now a comfortable size 8 and I am pretty comfortable with my size. What is surprising to me though, is that I still have quite a bit of body fat. In my mind, I though at this size I would not have very much fat, but I still have plenty I am sure this is why when I was younger and a size 4-6 I still felt fat. I was skinny fat!

I am not complaining or worried about this. I'm only 5'3'', so it's not like a size 8 is that small. Plus I am still losing weight, don't do very much formal exercise, don't count calories or restrict fruit or nuts....so there is a TON I could still do if I want to get a rockin' body. I just find it interesting

Anyone else surprised by the changes in their body?

Yes. I have been on a weight loss journey since Oct 09. Weirdest changes have been shrinking shoe & bra size. Discovered PB right around Christmas, and committed a month later.

Funny - my bra cup size is the one thing that hasn't changed! I was hoping for a little shrinkage in that area, but alas, it has not happened yet My feet have shrunk, but I think that is related to remission of my arthritis.

I'm surprised and pleased when I discover that I actually have muscle tone!

I've been hardcore primal for about 3 weeks...about a week ago, I think I went into ketosis. My spare tire rapidly has changed to "squishy" fat and after some internet research, I've found that means that it's about to break up.

I've had a buddha my entire adult and adolescent life. Even during the intense initial stages of military training when I could see the top two abs, I still had a stomach roll. I really think that I'm about to lose it...and that's amazing to me. I'm leaning out incredibly, and there are places all over my body that I previously thought were pretty solid...turns out they must have had a pretty nice layer of fat under them, because now I can feel that they're granular and squishy.

I'm taking my body fat measurements again in about 4 days, and we'll see what kind of progress I've made. This new way of eating has been a breakthrough for me. Thanks Mark!

I've been at this for roughly 2 months, and I am a sz 16. Started out as a true 16 and am now a loose 16. Hips and stomach are a lot smaller and the bands on all my bras are loose on the last hook now. I'm not measuring body fat at all and I haven't been a scale since December. I've always had muscle tone and put it on fairly easily.

Me too! Did NOT expect my feet to get smaller, as they didn't seem to have any fat on them before. But my shoes are definitely looser.

OP thats exactly how i felt! Back when i was like 21 i thought i could still lose a few pounds, maybe get some more muscle tone - i was a size 4. i looked back at my 21st birthday photos of me in a bikini on an island, and holy crap i had some nice abs. i cant believe i thought i should still lose weight. i was a comfortable size 8 too before getting pregnant. i can still sort of shove on my size 8 jeans, depending on if they are a pretty stretchy style lol, im so over wearing maternity jeans. i hate that stupid thing that sits over your stomach (it shows thru some shirts...) though it is heaven not to have a button digging into your lower stomach on top of bubs. so if i can still put on my size 8 jeans while being almost 35 weeks pregnant....i cant wait til this baby is out of me!!!
i swear its the primal living style that is keeping me from gaining excessively, and my husband even says that i lost a lot of weight in my hips and i look slimmer from the back, im all baby in the front =D
oh but my feet got a size bigger - curse you relaxin! they were already size 9 >.<
