  • Headaches/Migraines

I'm a believer that the body can heal itself when given the proper tools.

So, uh, what do y'all do when you get a headache or migraine? Any Primal/natural remedies to help it along?

a lot of headaches can be caused by dehydration. i'll usually down a little water, and that might help. if a headache is caused by something else, i usually fix it with a shower or a nap.
thinking about it now, though, i can't think of more than a couple of headaches and no migraines since going primal. thanks for helping me realize another benefit.

I think it's stress related. I already had a shower, so maybe if I veg after dinner, that might help (and I'll up my water intake tonight, too). Before Primal, I'd take a couple of ibuprofen or knock back a caffeinated soda. Thanks for advice

I had a headache today that wouldn't go away until I took a nap. Other than that, I will have some water or tea. The tea is if I think I need a little caffiene.

2 magnesium citrate tablets = end of headache. Much better than Maxalt.

Staying in the ketogenic carb curve zone has helped mine lots. Soon as I stumble, I'm back in headache hell. Magnesium is good. Niacin and all your B's are good. Hydration is good. Electrolytes are good.

Chiropractic works for me - I've seen a chiropractor on/off since college (They guy I saw in College was an alum of my school and treated students at no charge). I have fewer migraines (I don't get regular headaches) when I'm in alignment. Also eliminating wheat and gluten was a big help as well. The chiropractor I go to now practices Atlas ORthogonal techniques - both my kids have been to adjusted since the first week after birth - I can tell when each kid is out - dd will stop sleeping and ds - reflux will act up to the point he won't eat. as soon as they are adjusted - everything's good.

The only time Chiropractic doesn't help me is when I get a migraine from sever barometric pressure changes - then I end up popping excedrine migraine like candy and drinking more coffee than I normally would - but that's only b/c I'm allergic to the SSRIs used as preventives, and the triptans.

Other than the above - lying down in a dark room works wonders...

How soon does magnesium take to work? I am trying to get my partner to take some but she is stubborn. She often gets headaches and sometimes migraines.

Personally, I take magnesium citrate powder in water before sleep a few times each week and I never get headaches anymore. I don't know if this is becasue of the magnesium (but I suspect it is) as I take it as a supplement not a headache cure.

I'm intrigued by the magnesium. I'm hoping to go for prevention of menstrual migraines by taking calcium and magnesium weeks in advance. Also, if one your migraine things is your hands and feet go real cold, then you could soak them in hot water to draw the blood down from your head. That worked the couple times i tried it, but you have to do it quick when it's starting.

The magnesium tablets work in minutes, faster than Maxalt and no loopy feeling or hangover.
