This is off topic but I've searched and searched and can't find the answer. I'm such a newbie when it comes to Forums so please allow me this stupid question...

What do the red and blue envelopes mean at the left of each post? Why are some blue and some read? I can't seem to find the answer in the FAQs so will someone please enlighten me?

    Thank you!

Whether you've read the latest post in it or not, I think.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, steak in one hand, chocolate in the other, yelling "Holy F***, What a Ride!"

        Too funny!

Izzylu, I've been on the forums since August, and I hadn't figured that out. In fact, I hadn't even noticed they were different colors!!!

actually I think the red envelopes simply mean its a hot topic... or at least got a lot of posts in it. If the envelope has mail poking out of it, it means there are posts you havent read, it the envelope is just a closed envelope, you have read it.

On my screen they appear more light orange and green. Interesting! Carrie

The open envelopes with pages signify unread posts -- red for "hot" topics and greenish for others. If you're all caught up reading it, it's a gray closed envelope. And if you've posted to the thread, it has a little green arrow in the corner too.

You have pretty much received the answer. But, if you are on the page where all the sub-forums (forum main page) are listed, scroll all the way to the bottom and the 'key' for the envelopes is down at there

                          Yeah, we've noticed.

Unrelated p.s.: ordered my baby a clever hat. It's winter after all and we ARE naming her Jane.

Here's another question about the Forums: what's the difference between "New Posts" and "Today's Posts"? They seem the same to me.
