  • Calling all Preggo Primals

What have you done for morning sickness? My old standby in previous pregnancies has been saltines, not sure what to do this time around. This morning I had a bite of challah, I just couldn't take the pain in the belly, but not sure if that was the totally smartest thing but eggs or anything else doesn't sound appealing. I am actually afraid I am having an aversion to eggs, which might be a huge problem, but then again it is only another 8 months. I couldn't eat eggs with one of my pregnancies, I would gag at just the smell.

IME, eating more food more regularly is the best remedy. Eating appear to make it worse doesn't make it worse but over the course of days, frequent food will actually make it better.

I'd focus on whatever you can get down. Sweet potato with butter? Whatever animal products you can get down....cheese, meat, whey protein powder shake etc etc.

Frequently. Every 90 min if necessary b/c BG control is whacked during that first 12 weeks.

I liked plain almonds for a dry sensation in my mouth when my stomach felt "off." Carrot sticks also were helpful. But yeah, for me, it was key to avoid a really empty stomach (and a really full one, for that matter).

Thanks cillakat and slesca!! I will try to do that. I did end up eating some leftover beef stew, thought the broth in it might help, but I was like choking down the meat. It feels a bit better but still acidic for sure. Good thing I got a good sale on sweet potatoes, they may just do the trick for me.

cillakat I also just read through your google docs on nausea. I tried some raw ginger yesterday and it did help a bit, I just thought that was interesting and I had never known that before. I had read it somewhere about a day ago and now reading your notes confirmed that.

What helped me the best with morning sickness (and when I get nauseous in general) is water with small slices of lemon sliced up into the water (the oils from the skin seem to calm my stomach) and frozen fruit. Wash some grapes and pop them into the freezer, and buy yourself the all natural/unsweetened frozen peaches, mangoes and dark cherries (anything with a high sugar content). They helped me SO much. When that didn't work, Zofran was my best friend :-)!

thanks scubasam. I happen to have a big ziploc of frozen grapes in the fridge so I will try that later on today. I have never tried the lemon water, but I am willing to try anything at this point LOL!!

What I do with the lemon is cut it into quarters, take a quarter and slice it into lots of small triangular pieces (the thinner the better), and pop that into a large glass of icy water. Sip with straw. Always helped/helps :-)! Feel better. m/s and nausea are the worst IMO.

You can reuse the lemon pieces 2-3 times if you don't land up eating them (which I always do, lol). It is my 'go to' drink these days instead of plain water.

I've read milk thistle is very helpful, along w/ B6. Here is an MDC thread on it, in case its helpful: http://www.mothering.com/community/f...rum-herbs-more

I'm not an herbalist, and don't really know much about this, so be sure to look into the safety during pregnancy aspect! HTH!

ohhh, I hate that yucky nauseous feeling. I was severely nauseous during the first 5 months of my (non-primal) pregnancy. The only things that helped were actually primal, go figure. Applesauce and strawberry iced tea. I just took the strawberry tea bags and soaked them in cold water, no sugar. For whatever reason it calmed my stomach and was way better than drinking plain water.

It was totally a blood sugar issue with me. First pregnancy I ate all.the.time following the Brewer diet and gained too much weight. Last 2 pregnancies I was more strict with a low carb diet, and found that it really helped. Lots of whatever protein sounded good and whatever else. When I say low carb, I mean lower than conventional but not my regular low carb diet as I found a desire for greater amount of carbs in pregnancy. I found last time I did eat some grains in that first trimester, gluten free though, but after that didn't find the desire as much, after that I tended to keep the big carb intake to sweet potatoes drenched in coco oil and cinnamon.

I have no advice because although my appetite has been terrible, I haven't had a ton of morning sickness in either pregnancy (and it was all before I tried eating more primally.) Really I'm just posting out of sympathy!

I was going to say ginger too I think I would be willing to try some fresh potatoes too if I was at a point where nothing was working. I think potatoes are 'better' than grains, and the potassium in taters is supposed to help.

I am not currently pregnant, that i know of

Well thanks ladies, you kno NutMeg I may try potatoes. Today wasn't so bad but now it is the constipation too so I think I have to find a way to add more leafy greens in the diet, I thought I was getting enough but I think the pregnancy is causing the constipation, because I wasn't before.

Jenny good luck you are due so soon!!! I bet you are relieved you are down to the wire now.

Thanks soror for the input. I gained a ton with my first pregnancy, 65lbs lost the majority of it and then with my 2nd only gained 25lbs and lost all of it, but now I feel I know better than the previous 2. We shall see how it goes. I wasn't following any diet with the first 2. The first one I was on WW and then when I found out I was preggo I stopped and boom gained a ton. I think I was also under the "you can eat whatever you want your pregnant" mentality.

Guhhh, I can't wait. Three weeks feels like forever!

TMI time... Constipation is a prob for some primal people as it is, but of course pregnancy makes that worse. (I think I have fewer constipation probs this time than during my prev CW pregnancy actually... But still making sure we're super stocked up on those cheap cocoa butter suppositories just in case! A little poo-sistance goes a long way. Just use one a couple mins before you go.)
