  • Jam (in america its Jelly I think)

Is Jam a no no? it has sugar in and thats why I ask (newbie here just trying to piece everything together until I gets Marks book from BIL this afternoon)

Yes Jam/Jelly (in US) is full full full of sugar. Not Good.
I know this because I've made it for years.
I no longer eat jam but I do like to sniff it!

What an odd question! How can you not know that jam contains sugar...?!

Hi and welcome to the forum! As for the jam it's best to leave it out for now. There are varieties of preserves that are just fruit with little added sugar, and down the road if you continue with PB and have good results you may or may not be able to add it as an occasional indulgence, but for right now you should stick to the basics and eliminate such things entirely. Be sure to check out Primal Blueprint 101 to get you started.

thanks Jel62 I sure will check it out - that makes perfect sense. My BIL follows it around 80% and adds in occasional beer and dark chocolate as his 'vice' but until I am around goal weight and how I look I am comfortable with I think I will keep the strip it bare approach until I am in the full swing of it then fingers crossed may not even need these! Had Coconut cake for desert last night with double pouring cream on top so certainly dont feel like I am missing out at all! Managed to do some good weights and sprinting in the gym. I will check out your link thanks for taking the time to help me I really appreciate it. How long have you been following this way of life? :-)

Yes. It is sugar, just flavored sugar. Fagitaboutit!

Short language lesson. Jam is made from fruit and sugar. Jelly is made from fruit juice and sugar. To me, there is a noticeable difference in consistency.

There are no sugar added jams. It's fruit and pectin that creates jam; sugar is not required. Still pretty high in carbs because of the concentrated fruit with its sugars, but a tablespoon here or there isn't going to kill you.

Take what SV says with a grain of salt. She has asperger's/autism and tends to say what's on her mind *and* not think twice before pressing send.

Welcome and do feel free to ask questions. You'll find that mostly this is a pretty welcoming place.

Sounds like a shit-ton of sugar.

I might use a teaspoon of jam in a glaze for a pork loin. No way in hell I would eat coconut cake w jam.
