  • Yearly Physical after 10 months of primal

Well I just left the Dr.’s office for my yearly physical. My Dr. use to tell me when I was 263lbs that he would like to see me at 220lbs. I am 6’4” so I always thought to myself I would look like a bean pole. Well now I am around 190 and think I look rather well, but anyways that’s not my topic for this. My Dr. is into nutrition and health more than most Dr.’s I would say, very fit and active. He was very satisfied with my results. So we were talking about exercising and he then asked me what I was eating? So we spent a few minutes on my “primal” eating style and he then referenced the “Atkins” diet and I had to quickly steer him back on track. The only recommendation he had for me once I explained it to him was to eat less red meat and get my protein through beans(not going to happen) especially since my ˝ grass fed cow goes out on Wednesday to slaughter! His concern was that over long term the red meat will cause inflammation. He was also concerned that I wasn’t getting enough fiber then I informed him about the BAS and all the veggies I eat and that satisfied him on that topic.
He told me my labs where great!
To me they are just numbers but here they are:
    LDL Calculated 98MG/DL
    Cholesterol 175 MG/DL
    Triglycerides 46 MG/DL
    HDL Cholesterol 68 MG/DL
I’ve been primal for 10 months now and have other labs at home to compare. Maybe later I can get those up to compare.

Cool! Your weightloss is amazing! Everyone is inspiring me to seek testing. I think I had a blood panel done a few years ago, and maybe I can dig up the results and see how I compare.

Well here are my results from 2/26/10
              LDL 114
              Cholesterol 183
              TRI 44
              HDL 60
So it appears to me that things are better. I cut back on cheese and it shows.

So he thinks meat causes more inflammation than the lectin in beans? That's a new one on me. The primary benefit of beans would be the fiber and if you're already getting that from other veggies without lectin... what's the point?

                Can't argue with results, man.

Huh, there are some interesting claims here as to why red meat might be inflammatory:
                      http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/s...-molecule.html

But meat-eating played such a huge role in our evolution for those 3 million years they mentioned -- and we sure were eating red meat!

I can't imagine we would have kept this mutation unless both the mutation and the meat-eating were still sufficiently advantageous for other reasons. Or if we have some kind of counter-mutation elsewhere that helps us deal with this...

From what they say there are people who have measurable inflammatory effects from meat -- but then again we have measurable inflammatory reactions to lots of foods. I wonder how far from normal this is, if it is.

Ok, another question. All these numbers dont reall mean squat to me. As long i'm under here and over there is it fine? Or am i better of being way under when i should be under and way over when i should be over?
Before going primal my results where:
                        LDL: 81
                        Cholesterol: 144
                        Tri:63
                        HDL:50
Was my cholesterol better then or now? Any help would be great.
