  • Dallas this week

    Hey MDA friends,

I'll be in Dallas (Plano) this week, Tuesday afternoon through Friday am and would love to meet up with local MDA'ers.

Anyone up for dinner or a glass of red wine. I'll be there visiting some old friends, so some of my time is already scheduled but I still do have some good chunks of time available.

So who's in Dallas? I know Beef Cake is but he seems to be MIA.....

Well my husband and I had thought about visiting his son, who lives in Plano, but I'm not sure if the trip is still on.

I know family visits can get busy - often busier than expected....but if you do come to Plano and you do have time, call me!

Damn you and going to Dallas when I'm not there! I grew up there, but now I'm out here. CÚst la vie, I guess. If you need food recommendations let me know.

alright, pull out the pen and paper:
Campisi the Egyptian (Italian food, you can get spinach instead of noodles and it's on the side), near Mockingbird and Central expressway. Within walking distance of Mocking bird Station on the DART light rail.
Mumtaz Indian Food: 216 W. Campbell Rd Richardson, TX. Some of the best Indian food I've ever had. The buffet was pretty good.
There's a Mediterranean joint in the same shopping complex, supposedly has good recs, I've never been there.
Mexican food: I don't know any in the north Dallas area, I can give you some down in Oak Cliff though that's not Americanized.
For basic food stuffs and good produce: Fiesta supermarket
Sushi/ Sashimi: I don't know if it's still open, but Atomic Sushi in the West End was pretty good. If they aren't open, there's a little hole in the wall that's really good, I'd need to confirm the name though.
My favorite BBQ place closed, I'll ask my Dad about a suitable replacement. Dickie's is good in a pinch.
Bear in mind that most of these as Mom and Pop local shops, so hours and days may vary. If you need some recs for other cuisines, let me know. I can probably point you in the right direction.

Oops. Atomic Sushi traded hands and went downhill and my favorite little sushi joint is pretty difficult to find (It's hidden behind a pillar, on an out of the way street downtown, and holds maybe 50 people (including staff) tops). I'll ask my buddy still in Dallas and report back.
For a good down home breakfast, done '50's diner style, go to Norma's Cafe down in Oak Cliff. If it's anything like I remember it being when I was small, it's worth the trip.
For a decent hole in the wall bar, there's always the Barley House, also near Mockingbird station.
No idea about steakhouses, we always cooked our own. I will say that Truluck's is overpriced.

If you are wanting meat, try Texas De Brazil. It's a Brazilian steakhouse. They have a great selection of meat and veggies.

Ah....there it is. I just posted in my journal and thought I saw something about you being in the Dallas area. I will contact you and see if we can at least have a glass of red wine and hopefully some primal dinner as well.

I'm more fond of Texas de Brazil these days, though it's in Grapevine.

Katherine - I'm here all week, in and out, though my evenings are more busy than my days. I'm about 20-30 minutes from West Plano. Shoot me an email. suseyb @ gmail dot com. I'd love to see you, even for a moment.

There are all the gf standby's here for eating, if you need that right now. Cowboy Chicken has great chicken, similar to Boston Market, but tastier. I know there is one on Preston in Richardson, I think. Not a lot of veggies, though. Bring your own salad.

I'll email you both privately so we can make plans.

Sus, we've 'known' each other for, gosh, it's got to be more than 10 years...right? We *have* to get together....no matter what.

I'm so excited! How cool will this be

I live in Fort Worth but work in Dallas. Unfortunately I am incredibly busy this week so I don't think I could fit in a dinner. If by chance you are interested in taking some hot yoga/power yoga classes while you are here let me know... I teach in a few locations near Dallas. I have a few free classes to give away and I would love to meet some MDAers!
