  • carbo refeed....one meal vs. one whole day

When one does carbo refeed, does she do just one carbohydrate meal or a whole day of carbo foods?

Depends on if I am in weight loss mode or not. Weight loss=1 meal.

Splitting the intended dose into two meals 4~6 hours apart is probably gentler to the system than one but the effect on muscles should be similar either way.

Will you explain what you meant by "gentler to the system"?

Ideally we don't want to be swimming in 150+ BG for long periods since it promotes nerve damage and glycation. This is highly individual--some folks eat a sack of potatoes without this happening while others should pace themselves.

So fruits with a lower glycemic load (such as cantaloupes) will be better choices for carbo reefed?

Again, it depends on the situation. If you just did some intense exercise and have evacuated your muscle glycogen stores you can probably eat pure sugar or glucose. The only re-feeds I do are within 24 hours of my twice a week lifting sessions -- and they usually involve a couple of banana within 30 minutes, a dinner later with lots of potatoes and a lunch the next day which usually includes rice.

I'm not sure what is best if you are trying re-feed without exercise glycogen filling.
