but in Texas, you would probably be hanged for eating a horse..or even possessing horse meat...
Before the banning in 07, Texas had 2 of the last three horse slaughtering facilities in the country. Texas also provides Mexico/Canada with more horse meat than any other state. It's just as illegal where I am, but these Chinese don't really care. Their horse was put down. Legally all they could do was cremate it. That's ridiculous to them. So they are now criminals, despite the fact the government ships thousands of wild horses across our borders to be slaughtered.

    T. Boone Pickens was the relentless deep pockets who lobbied hardest to get horse banned in America. I know in California it has only led to worse treatment of the surplus animals.

I'll throw in my $0.02 here too. I can happily eat rabbit but for some reason horse gives me the psychological barrier to consumption as well. I could probably try it and that may or may not alter my perception but without the experience I cannot say. I have to second everyone who says dogs and cats are a big no-no for me too though. I'm sure if I was in the orient and served some un-named food that consisted of either I wouldn't know any better but there is no way I would actively consume the meat of either species and that extends to their wild counterparts (no wolf or lion for this gal!). Sentimental, yes, probably, but I can live with that!

Intellectually I recognize that it is, in fact, a huge waste of meat products, how many thousands of pounds of animal flesh are disposed of due to pet overpopulation in North America alone? And I wouldn't even consider feeding it to my own dogs and cats, although in the wild I'm sure they wouldn't hesitate if they came across the carcass of a deceased canid/felid. Go figure, I'm pickier about what my animals eat than they are.

I could not eat horse by choice. I just love 'em too much. Dogs either. Some of my very best friends have been dogs. Cat - maybe. Cute cuddlies, like rabbits, you bet. They're tasty. Goats, sheep, deer, moose, squirrel, elk, buffalo, cows, bear and especially, pigs. Ah, piggy! Yum!

Although we know that horses can be raised to be eaten, I think that they are better utilized in a work or sport capacity. I cannot say the same for cows/chickens/pigs/fish. They were made to be eaten.

I'd eat a horse. Even dogs and cats if someone served it up as a meal for me.

I don't see the big deal. Its not like I'd eat my own dog or my mums cat lol.

I hope the little Beefcakes enjoyed it. I was in a silly mood earlier today.

As for the horsemeat. I am going to search online for some sources of it here in Ontario. There has to be some somewhere.

They love it as they do all Dr. Seuss books. In fact, when one of them doesn't want to eat something, the other says "Try it Sam I Am" and they giggle afterward. My oldest one did not want to eat chicken the other day and the youngest one said "Try and you may, I say" which cracked me up and then he said that he would eat the chicken because he is a T-Rex and T-Rex's eat chickens. The older one said he was a Pterodactyl. I reminded him that Pterodactyl's also eat meat. I then looked at the younger one and he had an entire quarter (leg/thigh) in his teeth as he was growling and pretending like he was a dinosaur.

Noooo...I would have made a trip to the hospital to remove it from the little one's mouth as he would have taken that as a challenge. LOL.

My oldest one was (and still is) the same way. He is 25 now and just joined the Canadain Armed Forces today. His girlfriend is freaking out and called me crying to 'talk some sense intio him'. I cannot do that as it *is* his life now and he is in charge of it.

Sometimes you need to be told the truth in order to be able to see it.

                          I would eat horse.

I think that we could save two huge American problems (hungry Americans and pet overpopulation) if eating "cute" animals wasn't taboo.
