  • Primal hangover

So I drank way too much last night, ate poorly, and to make it all worse only got 5 hours of sleep last night. Up until this point I have been primal for a week and have been doing great. What do you guys recommend I do today to compensate for my rough night? i,e detox or an am fast session..

Ha ha ha.....I am in a similar boat. A "champagne" dinner has me hungover today. Having a big delicious steak for dinner. and water.

Drink a LOT of water to rehydrate yourself and to flush out your system. Also, take some potassium and magnesium supplement.
Primal eating in a nutshell: If you are hungry, eat Primal food until you are satisfied (not stuffed). Then stop. Wait until you're hungry again. Repeat.

Get some potassium - and no, bananas don't have enough, nor do avocados in ratio to the amount of cals they donate.....we're looking for high potassium, low cal to fix this issue.

If there's a juice bar around, get something like celery and cucumber (mostly) with a little kale or lettuce and lemon.

If there's not a juice bar, go to WF or a HFS and look for elecrolyte replacement options - not gatorade/powerade/rechargebut something with a significant amount of potassium in it

This is the best I've found in terms of simplicity, cost and K:Ca:Mg ratios - take 2 with 1/2 juice 1/2 water. Then one-2 with each meal for the rest of the day:

          Alacer, ElectroMix, Lemon-Lime, 30 Packets, 0.1 oz (4 g) Per Packet

ETA: this also looks great but is more for serious athletics...but still really good

Keeping some potassium tabs around isn't a bad idea either:

I keep potassium gluconate crystals on hand so I can dose as needed to up the K content of my diet overall:

How about the long-forgotten prairie oyster?

            1 egg
            1 t worcestershire sauce
            2 dashes hot sauce
            salt
            pepper

Combine in a glass. (No mixing!) Take it all down in one gulp.

Okay, okay, the worcestershire isn't very primal. But it's better than downing a gallon of neon-blue Gatorade.

Thanks for the tips peeps. Concerning the coconut water- I love that stuff so much but i can only buy it in 6 packs and have little self control with it since it tastes so good. I have seen people talk a bit about coconut water on here and was wondering if it was still primal considering all the sugar.

As long as your talking about natural sugars found in the water and not an additive, i dont see why not XD

This. I usually just use the water from the inside of the coconut, but if your're using a boxed version, be sure it's just coconut water and nothing else added.

Agreed with everyone and I'll add that silymarin extract also works very well. It helps protect and support the liver so I can see how it might mitigate the effects of a good hard binge.
