    I'm buying some grass-fed tongue this weekend and I can't wait! I'm kind of freaked out at the same time.

      Tongue, heart and kidneys are the only grass-fed beef I can afford. I have some heart thawing at the moment, I love it!

        I haven't had cow tongue since I was a child, but I'm ordering some from Slanker's in Texas: I'm excited!!
        Started PB late 2008, lost 50 lbs by late 2009. Have been plateaued, but that thing may just be biting the dust: more on that later.

          I'm cooking a couple beef tongues this weekend as well. My plan is to boil them just long enough to peel the out outer layer off then chop them up and slow cook them in Crockpots. By the time they're cut up and they'll just look like any other kind of meat. I can't wait to see how it tastes.

            you have to peel the outer layer off?

            I'm planning on grilling it on a grill I'm about to buy off Amazon.

              Jesus. You guys are hardcore. I've never even considered eating that until I saw this thread.... and now that I've thought about it, I'm never considering it again.

                It's much easier to slice a tongue thin if it is half frozen. Peel off the skin and cut the muscle into wafer thin slices. Cook them on the grill for only seconds a side. Salt them and eat.. mmmm

                  +1 on tongue. Really it is one of the most delicious cuts. Get over it and just taste.

                    Yes, you must remove the outer layer of the tongue. It's tough, rough, rubbery, skin like, and has pointy taste buds covering the outside. I've never heard of anyone eating tongue without removing it. The best way, from what I hear, is to boil it for an hour and then it will peel off. If that weren't the case cooking tongue would be a bunch easier.

                      rphlslv : Another inexpensive cut of beef is flap steak. Price a bit lower than flank steak. Quality is fine.

                          Makes me glad I'm in a part of the world that these parts of animals are everyday foods and can be gotten pretty easily.

                          Heart, lung, tongue, liver, gizzard, feet, intestines, eyes, brain, marrow, testicles, sperm (fish ones), horn... All easy to get and very nicely cooked. You just need an open mind.

                              Yeah, that's the way my mother prepared it. Very big in the Chinese community in Hawaii. Probably the most tender cut of meat out there if prepared this way. Brings back good memories.

                              Another good cut is ox tail.
