  • cheaper alternative to almond meal?

I live in Norway- crazy expensive- and am just starting out with this... I found almond meal today, but at $20 a handful...any other alternatives for the recipes? I'm a student and a single mom of two so I have a teeny tiny cash flow
can you make almond meal yourself? by crushing almonds??? :O)

You can even do it in small quantities at a time in a coffee grinder.

          Bacon is a good alternative.

I actually "breaded" some chicken with crushed pork rinds, it was pretty damn good...

Yes. I made almond meal tonight for the first time by pulsing in a blender. Made great pancakes per the recipe on mark's many uses of almond meal blog. God they were good. I added a little cream and honey too and they were fab!!

I wonder if you could order online any cheaper than you're paying locally for the almonds.
Now and then it is good to pause in our pursuit of happiness and just be happy.

Ditto the others, you can make your own with a blender, food processor or magic bullet. I buy mine on ebay here in the US from an almond distributor for $5/lb. You might try ebay there too.

I also live in Norway, and I can tell you that the almond meal that I found in the health store (from "Funksjonell Mat") was crap anyways. It's finely grinded, for sure, but it has these really hard, little lumps that feel like they'll break your teeth. So until they come up with something better, I will grind my own almonds. Or just eat bacon

haha! I broke down and tried a bag of the almond meal they had here- at Sunnkost- it did not a good pancake make! It was as if it had been chopped with a knife! But I tried my own grinding today- the first try was chunky almond butter...but the second, not too bad!
