    I am getting ever so confuse with figuring out food portions. I think i am actually eating way less than i 'think' i am. i wont get a scale b/c with my past i will become overly obsessed with it.

    i am trying to figure out how much 100g of food looks like so i can make sure im getting at least 3000 calories in me a day. i figure the obvious like an egg, a cube of cheese, a deck of cards is 3.5oz of chicken. i looked at that '200 looks like' but barely any of it is primal. can someone help me out?

    Bacon- how many pieces would be about 100g?

    do you count it before or after you cook it... bacon gets light when you cook it

    I too have trouble with things like this. I don't know where I was when they taught measurements in school but it seems like I missed that week.

      invest in a kitchen scale and start measuring. pretty soon you will start recognizing portions in grams.

        YES DO THIS. I just bought a digital scale and i realized I had been WAY off on my portion sizes. its the only way to get it right.

          I know you don't want to become obsessed with it, so maybe use the scale for a week and then put it away. Get it out two weeks later and then put it away. I was always taught to weigh it before it is cooked, but you are correct about bacon becoming lighter after it is cooked. I still think you go by pre-cooked weight.

            I don't know how you can get a good idea of measurement without using a scale or having someone else give you the breakdown for specific foods you can't figure out.

            As for the bacon, we buy 4 lbs. of thick-sliced bacon (Fletcher's brand dry-cured) from Costco. There's approximately 1800 g per package. Their estimate is 64 slices per package, but I don't think we ever have that many. Right now, we have about 40 in the package (and I think that's about standard based on how quickly our family of 5 eats it), so 2-3 slices would be 100 g.

            Also, I'm pretty sure you usually use pre-cooked weight for tracking.

              If you have a foodie friend, buy them a scale. Then you can watch them use it & ask questions whenever you visit them, but you won't be tempted to play with it all the time because it won't be in your house.
