  • What Happens To The Food We Eat?

Does any one have any information/books/online info/videos that they can point me to that addresses what happens to food after we eat it and how our body processes it?

As I have changed my lifestyle from one that relies on CW to one that is based on primal living, I often think about what I eat more so than I have in the past.

But I have just realized that I don't exactly know what happens to that food once it's been chewed up and swallowed? Normally I just eat primally and leave it at that. No questions asked. But over the past few months I have been wanting to know what happens next.

Can anybody point me towards some good resources?

lol I'm just finishing up a biology course in college, and just finished a chapter on the digestive system. Very interesting stuff.

Other than biology texts though, I am sure you could google it. What are you interested in? Enzyme production and break down of food? Digestive organ function?
The more I see the less I know for sure.

@lil_earthmomma: I'm definitely interested in both enzyme production/the break down of food as well as digestive organ function. I want to know why the foods we eat produce certain responses within us. It may be a question with too many answers but I don't mind. I just want to be pointed in the right direction. Thanks for the reply!

No its definitely not a question with too many answers! Easily acheivable information, and really interesting to learn what responses different food types (protein, starches, fats etc.) bring about in our bodies! Good luck with your search, I hope you enjoy!

Protein Power Lifeplan by the Drs. Eades contains a description (in the leaky gut chapter, I think) of how the body processes different macronutrients and defends itself from invaders.
