  • How long can you keep soup for?

    Heya,

Just wanting a primal opinion on this...

how long can you leave soup for. I cooked it three days ago on Firday, turning the heat off at around 9:00.
I haven't been home since then so I haven't reheated it.Is it still safe to eat it today?

It's oxtail soup btw, with tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, ginger, kidney and black eyed beans!

    Thanks
    Stephen

As long as it doesn't smell rancid or doesn't have visible signs of having gone bad, I think you should be ok, but I wouldn't make it common practice, especially during warmer months.

I agree with unchatenfrance, and I would also suggest that you don't reheat it in the microwave, since it can heat quite unevenly. If you heat up a bowl's worth on the stovetop you can make sure that it all gets up to a good boil!

          I wouldn't

I always try to throw the pot into the fridge as soon as it's cool enough to handle. Ya only need one ripping case of food poisoning to understand why I do this...

agreed. i had a horrible case of food poisoning (from eating at a taco stand lol i know i probably deserve it but i really enjoyed that chorizo hehe) but i dont take chances anymore. it was probably the most awful experience ever. imagine basically living on your toilet for a week. and im not even gonna get into the nasty stuff u do while on that toilet.

Oh god no. Turf that sucker. Next time have some sealing jars ready to go to do a hot pour into.

I think I had food poisoning a week ago, and I'm just now getting my appetite for meat back. I tried to make pork chops last night, fried in bacon grease, and I about hurled at the smell.

My friend brought over a spring lamb roast, it was quite red in the middle, but I spent 5 hours wishing for death, and since then bordering on nausea with very little energy.

I had to spend the night in the bathtub, the last time.

Holy crap! Broth is what they use to grow bacteria with in science labs! Don't eat it unless you kept it in the fridge.
