  • Marmite/ Vegemite

    Probably a question for the Brits out there. How do I feed my Marmite hankering? Usually I'd have it smothered on hot, buttery toast, but clearly thats out nowadays.

    Its the nectar of the Gods and I'd be very sad to give it up. I'm not quite a big enough fan to eat it straight from a spoon....have just tried licking a thin smear of it off a teaspoon and almost gagged.

    Has anybody figured out a good way to get their fix?

    oh squeaker how I hear your pain. yes I miss vegemite (blah to marmite) on toast too. but like you I couldnt possibly have it on its own. Nowadays I really only use it to add to a gravy or something. I havent looked at the ingredient list but I'm sure its full of all the bad stuff we're not supposed to have.

    You could make some primal crackers and put it on there?

      Maybe it's the butter/marmite combo that works so well. How about sweet potato with melted butter and marmite? I'd be interested to hear what it tastes like. Do the manufacturers have a website with recipe's? Sorry I'm feeling too lazy to look!

        I love my Vegemite! I totally miss it on buttery toasted Vogels
        Although I have been known to eat it by the spoonful... I also enjoy it spread on pieces of cheese or as a dip for celery/carrots

            I think it'd work quite well spread thinly on an egg and cheese omlette. Or maybe try a sweet potato frittata.

              I bought a sweet potato today just to try this!
              Incidentally, who the hell is eating all the sweet potatoes the size of pumpkins?! I had to root around for a medium sized one, no small ones to be found!

                I used to be a Marmite fiend- I'd eat it on wholemeal toast, with butter and a poached egg. I found out recently that it's pure MSG so not particularly good for you. As part of your 20%, you could try making some flax bread to have with it.

                  Or simply melt a tablespoon of butter, drip Marmite in it and dunk veggie crudites. Yum!

                    i miss my vegemite too! i got a tube of it in the cupboard my grandmother sent me from home. and i am really so tempted to toast a piece of white bread, smother it in butter and vegemite and go to town!

                      I smear Marmite on my hard-boiled eggs in the morning. Just a touch on bacon as well.
