  • How Often Do You Eat?

How often do you eat each day?

I have recently transitioned from eating constantly (3 meals + 3-4 snacks a day) to 3 main meals a day and an occasional bed time snack depending on the level of activity I have been doing that day. This is a big change from my /endurance athlete/vegetarian/constantly hungry days and is extremely liberating.

I would love to hear your experiences as well as your nourishment schedules.

    Thanks in advance,

    Karl

Usually breakfast and supper without snacks. I am also skipping breakfast Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays as an experiment. The Sunday Waffle variable probably needs to go :P Anyway, I am good and hungry by suppertime but never lack energy.

Usually lunch and dinner, but lately shit has been out of wack and I've been snacking more as a result of it. Today I had half of a burger (left over, yeah I ate the bread haha) about two hours ago (3pm) did tons of yard work and now I'm going to enjoy some left over steak and probably make some eggs with it, throw a spinach for greens and call it a day food-wise. Most likely having some red wine with my lady later this evening, she might cook something...

I think a better answer would have been: intuitively, but usually results in two meals most days.

How can you justify dropping the waffles?? Well, we can justify, but the pleasure that will be missing!

Are you eating large meals or do you have lots of fat/protein to keep you satisfied?

Usually 3-4 medium sized meals a day, including post-workout.

But it's summer now, and Im moving around a lot more and going out a lot more, so now it's more like 4-5 snacks a day. By snacks I don't mean crap. Just smaller portions.

Typically, breakfast at 7 a.m., lunch around 1 p.m. and dinner around 7 ish.
I used to have cocktail hour when I got home, but now I limit my glass of wine only with dinner.

If I am hungry in the morning or in the afternoon, I will snack on some veggies and some hummus...or a couple of nuts.

I have been adding coconut oil to my morning smoothie and upped my bacon to a minimum of four slices to make sure I am getting enough fat in the morning and it helps cut down on snack cravings.

I have also started keeping bacon at my office to snack on in the afternoon, if I get hungry or if I work late.

Usually just lunch and dinner. Breakfast is a cup of black coffee, sometimes with cream.

I should have posted my general meal times as well...

                  Breakfast - 6:15 (I have toddlers)
                  Lunch - 12:00 or so
Dinner - 5:30-6:00 depending on what we are eating

Beef Cake! I like the bacon at work idea. My colleagues would just hate me if I did that. I will do that!

I had a vegetarian comment that they love the smell of bacon and that they really miss it...the smell of bacon. If I am missing some bacon, I know where to look first!

People watch me with incredulous eyes as I eat a Big Ass Salad for lunch, with steak or chicken and then snack on bacon in the afternoon.

During the week I normally eat once or twice in the evening and that's it.

I have been eating intuitively... and what that's turning out to be is:

tea with cream in the a.m. when I get to work (6:30-7:30ish depending on the day).

Brunch between 9 and 10 depending on my hunger.

Linner between 3-4 depending again on hunger.

Snack sometime after I get home, so 7 or 8ish?

The two meals can be anything, but look something like (meat, veggies, fat-- burger, veggies, avocado--chicken, veggies, homemade oliveoil dressing-- eggs, bacon, veggies.. you get the drift). I find that if I make sure to have enough fat, I am not hungry for 5 hours or so, and I don't eat huge meals (2-3 eggs 2-3 pieces of bacon, 1/4 avocado... etc.)

For snacks it just depends. I might have a small slice of cheese and some tomatoes... a couple of hard boiled eggs.. maybe a banana and some almond butter. Just depends on my mood. I try to limit the dairy and nuts/nut butters, but if I feel like it I'll have it.

                          Gas. Frequent, terrible gas.

And yeah, when I do eat, the meals are pretty big. 4-6 slices of side pork with 4-5 eggs at breakfast, for example, and two big slices of fatty roast with veggies and butter with a spoonful or two of coconut oil for supper.

I'm so happy to hear that some of you are still eating three times (or more) a day. Even after six weeks on PB I still find that I am hungry most days ... that switch has not shut off (although I was a lot less hungry the first week for some reason). I do try to IF, and once or twice a week I do a 17 hour fast where I skip dinner after late exercise (eat something small around 4:30, play volleyball from 5:00 - 9:00 pm, shower and bed). Other than that, I'm still hungry during the day and can't seem to get it to stop.

I used to eat 5+ times a day before primal, now if I listen to my hunger, I'll eat 3 times a day.

However, I choose to eat only 2 times a day, within about an 8-hour window of time (noon-8pm). Sometimes I add a snack after my workout if dinner is a ways off (but this is still within that 8 hours). Yes, this means I'm hungry all morning, but everything I've read about IF has won me over, and this is still enough meals that I don't feel deprived.
