  • Ghetto curry

I came up with this when I was stoned.

Say you're sauteing chicken, grab some turmeric and some fancy primal approved (OR NOT) ketchup and add both to the pan as the chicken (or whatever) is almost done. Mix that up. Done.
I used to seriously post here, now I prefer to troll.

I love curry but that doesn't even sound good. Turmeric and ketchup? Hm.

Well, I did ghetto barbecue sauce. I was out of barbecue sauce and discovered chipotle chili sauce and catsup tastes kind of like barbecue sauce. Also, ghetto pad thai isn't bad: soy sauce and peanut butter. Bonus if you have chili oil on hand. I've had that on backpacking trips.

Spices + meat always tastes amazing, doesn't even need ketchup.

I'd be happy if I could just use some turmeric without it dominating everything. Even just a tad seems like too much sometimes.

Gotta use the rest of the Indian spices to co-dominate tumeric.

I went somewhere recently that served a curry ketchup for dipping fries in... I don't remember where it was, but it was delicious.

Maybe I've never had good turmeric? It seems very mild in taste compared to the other things in curry. It does have a nice color though.

I picked up a bag from one of the local Asian junk food stores and, let me tell you, this stuff is STRONG.

                        1. See the list of ingredients for this masala mix. The cumin & coriander & chili is "co-dominating" the tumeric. My Indian friend told me this is one of the 2 most authentic mixes one can get to "real Indian food."
                        2. Buy quality cumin/chili. The chili I got from Little India (in Queens, NY. all of the streets had Hindi on them) and the cumin I bought either there or at the middle eastern specialty store. I bought my coriander/cardamom at the middle eastern spice place as well. They are cheaper there anyway... See the awesome prices.

If you have an Indian or middle eastern neighborhood shopping market (or at least specialty store) I would get all of my spices there.

Ghetto curry mustard. Okay, not curry at all, but tasty:

                          Spicy brown mustard
                          Sriracha sauce

                          Both in copious quantities.

Change the ketchup to canned, diced tomatoes and it sounds okay. As it is I agree, you're stoned.
