  • Eggs in Bacon Grease = Good

So I was making lunch at home today, and my wife was off work. I cooked two pieces of bacon in the skillet, of course saved the grease, and then added eggs and cheese in the grease with chopped up bits of bacon.

After seeing this, my wife looked at my plate and said, "You do NOT need all the grease, there is NO WAY it is good for you. I will get any dietician to come tell you that bacon grease is BAD for you."

I just looked at her and smiled, while thoroughly enjoying my meal. Anybody else have similar experiences?

I think the more pertinent question here is, "Does anyone here NOT have a similar experience?"

@Darth - I definitely think you are right. I just really enjoyed the look on her face, so I wanted to share.

        *raises hand*

I tried to like the whole eggs-in-bacon-grease thing. I really tried.

        Sorry. It's friggin' disgusting.

But I'm not a total write-off; I have gone through half a jar of coconut oil in no time. I just started dipping dark chocolate in it for a snack in addition to cooking all my eggs in it. Sweet stuff.

I haven't been able to find coconut oil yet. I have heard good things though. May make that a weekend project. Eggs in bacon grease is not my favorite, but I like it better than EVOO.

I save my bacon grease for other things too. Coconut oil is what I use for my eggs. You can order it in huge massive jars online. Look for virgin cold pressed coconut oil. Nothing is worse that slutty coconuts.

I cook almost everything with bacon grease. I used coconut oil but it doesn't have any flavour in my opinion. I'd MUCH rather that delicious baconny flavour added to all my foods!

                    Hahhahaha PrimalChild. LMAO.

I'm finding EVOO disgusting to cook with lately. I pour it on my salads by the cupful but cooking with it is just awful now that I have real food/oils/fats.

actulally-though I have read here and trying to follow, I see that a higher fat diet is preferrable to a high carb one, but I DO have a hard time seeing how bacon grease, butter etc in large quantities can be good for you. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I was trying to explain to friend why eating bacon a few times a week not as bad as once thought and I did not have a good explanation. Thanks

Fats are more calorically dense and digest slower than carbohydrates which means you fill up quicker and are satisfied longer, so you don't eat as much. In our low-fat-crazed society, a lot of people are literally starving for good fats. High fat intake lets the body know that it's okay to start getting rid of what it has stored up in the face of what it believes to be starvation.

                          Excellent explaination.

Even though I "knew" some of that I hadn't pieced it together.

Sheeeeeeet, see I came here, and actually learned me sumthin today. Crap!

I always cook my eggs in bacon grease. I usually cook a few strips of bacon, then saute some mushrooms in the grease before adding three scrambled eggs. Someone has to say it at least once in this thread: OM NOM NOM!

I always get this look when i make my bacon, mushroom, leeks and asparagus dish. SO GOOD!

How long does the bacon grease last for? i have some saved in my fridge.
