  • Bizarre but instructive fast food experiment

I have to share this. I have visualised a big mac that is over 2 years old. It is still recognisable as a Big Mac. The nurtitionist who bought it to make a point about the preservatives vs real food content did not expect to be keeping it more than a week. It was stored in a fridge for that time and the nutritionist said the cardboard container in which the burger was contained degraded before the burger did (and I saw it myself after it was two years old, it was fine). The lettuce was dehydrated and the cheese was a bit grey, but it wasn't going anywhere - it would survive a nuclear winter.

The even scarier thing is she said her kids were doing some experiment and put chicken outside (for some reason, I cant recall but it made sense) so she decided to put the burger to the grave, and even though a mass of ants swarmed the chicken and cleaned it to the bones, they wouldn't touch the burger. Even ants knew not to take the burger home to feed their babies....wow. I think of this when the smell of fast food tempts me and my evil inner voice trys to tell me one fast food meal is within the 80/20 limits.

Ew. Good thing I don't like burgers. Blech.

ha ha Kuno1chi - maybe that is where the nutritionist got the idea. Very sad...

Good post! I've heard that basic same principal with bleached flour, white rice, etc. I've personally seen weavils (sp?) in old flour and rice, but they're usually dead, so maybe that's an indicator too! Very interesting.
