  • What's happened to this forum?

I've been a member for a long while, but only pop back here occasionally these days. But I've noticed a real change in the type of responses that posters are getting these days. What's happened? Where has that lovely forum gone with thoughtful, well written answers to questions? Why all the sarcasm and pro-vegan veiled threads. This isn't the place it used to be!

I also noticed a big change. I have been functioning under the assumption that my last year has changed me enough that perhaps it's just me that's different. Maybe I'm mistaken.

I only just joined, although I've been reading this forum off and on for a few years now, and I must admit I'm curious what you mean by "pro-vegan veiled threads"?

Can you link to some examples?

Um...I visit this forum daily and really can't recall many pro-vegan threads, unless they're started by a troll.

Haven't noticed any pro-veganism, but definitely lots more sarcasm and bickering going on.

Haven't noticed the pro-vegan or a change in sarcasm, but have noticed a change in answers- fads definitely sweep through and then sweep away.

As far as sarcasm & other means of idiot control, I think this forum has about the right level. Too low and the "information" is too hairbrained, too high and you can't have real conversations. I've left communities for both extremes.

It seems changed to me also, and I've only been here a year. Like Red Menace, I thought it was me.

The best way to combat intrusion of whatever negativity comes in is to just be one's self, and thump trolls when it is apparent that what appeared to be a well-meaning question was instead a post to stir the feces.

Here is what I think has happened....

There are about 8-10 people that apparently spend about 8 hours a day on here. Many of them are VERY extreme into their fad/ideological diet, and poo-poo anyone that doesn't ascribe to it. Most of their responses are long-winded psuedo-science, attempting to explain why THEIR particular fad/ideology is the "one true path".

                The pattern is this:
                - Genuine question.
                - Decent, normal MDA answers.
                - Radical comes in; recommends eating refried panda skin/drinking EVOO whole in place of water/taking aspirin in near lethal doses to artificially give a higher pulse.
                - OP gets confused. Radical (who puts up 40+ posts daily) starts to attack everyone.
                - People with functioning brains answer back.
                - Radical puts up 14 posts of random stuff they googled or got from their kool-aid fad/idealogy site before anyone else has even read anything.
                - Functioning brains explain to OP that "Radical X" is insane, not to listen. Ridicule of radical ensues. OP is long gone, BTW.
                - Radical eventually explains, after being made fun of and proven categorically wrong, that "well, everyone can do what feels good for them", which completely negates the purpose of any site such as this to begin with.
                - Thread dies....comes back months later.....repeat.

Now, go look at how many of the 20+ page posts DON'T follow this pattern

Well if your sample group is only the 20+ page posts then you are right on ..... Only insane bickering that goes off topic can turn a simple question into a 20 page attack. Or it could be a support thread. Those are legit.

Amen. And the OP moved to an Ashram with no Internet access a year ago and doesn't even give a sh*t.

I've been reading this forum forever but have only dipped my toes into the posting side of it. The Primal Blueprint was instrumental in introducing me to Paleo and helping me tweak my Paleo version of Atkins. I've lost 115 lbs doing an all natural LCHF and following not only Primal/Paleo/Atkins eating guidelines but the Primal advice for moving and exercising as well.

This forum lately though has been too argumentative and I don't want to feel put on the defensive for actually following Primal Blueprint dietary recommendations. Or told that fat makes you fat, women and men are identical when it comes to fat loss, and the best way to lose weight is to eat low fat and lots of fruit, sugar, and coke.

This feels like a place to argue and be told about everything other than how to follow the Primal Blueprint. When issues arise instead of advice to tweak things within Mark's guidelines it's "OMG eat some sugar your thyroid is shot!!!".

IDK, it just doesn't feel like a Primal Blueprint forum so I mostly stay away or lurk. JMO.

Is there another primal forum or is this the only game in town? I would love to know about it if there is.
