    Yup, I've went there. Sorry for those having to read this whilst eating breakfast. So I noticed after a day of eating some mackerel, sardines, eggs, spinach, broccoli, asparagus, almonds, frozen berries, coconut oil/dessicated coconut, small amount of dark chocolate and a tiny bit of goat's cheese that my stools are very dark and very soft. Is this normal after eating the above? Anything I need to change?

    As long as there is no blood or difficulty passing I don't see any problems.

      Not a problem at all. The spinach is the likely cause but as the above poster mentioned, you shouldn't be concerned unless you're pooping bloody or super hard, dry stools.

        A Lot of those foods are high in iron, which can cause dark stools.

        Although, if you would consider this a worrisome change in your bowel habits, you could have your doctor do a simple hemoccult test to make sure that you don't have blood in your stools.
        Some people just need a sympathetic pat... On the head... With a hammer.

            Blueberries will contribute to darker stools too.

              I wouldn't stress. As long as there was no blood or "coffee grounds" in your stools, you're fine. If you're really worried, see your family doctor and they can order a stool test.

                A weekend poop thread! How did I miss this? You made my day.

                I took iron supplements as a girl because I had a tendency to anemia. Yep, black poop.

                  Probably not. Blueberries are probably to blame. However .... all those who say that you have to wait for blood to be concerned are only partly right. The blood which turns one's poop black - the invisible one (internal ulcer bleeding) can be an emergency.
