  • Primal diet on military field excercises?

Hey everybody I'm new to this whole primal concept. I've decided I'm going to start primal nutrition and exercise tomorrow. I have a question though.

I'm in the army and I leave for a month in the field two weeks from now. Any other military people have any suggestions for how to eat primal on field rats and MRE's?

Good luck with that.... MREs are highly processed food stuffs... not very Primal there..... If you have a field kitchen, you may have access to some salads etc, other than that, you may have a hard time doing the primal thing. You might be able to stock up on jerky, but carrying a months supply of jerky, where ya gonna put your clothes?

      I LOL'd.

Dude... you eat what you have to eat when you are in the shit.
Make good choices when you can. Don't stress when you can't.

Just look at the bright side, at least you aren't being fed C-rats!

And that's why I'm here eating HFLC Primal/Paleo.

I remember Robb Wolf has talked about how when he's working with military/special forces he tells them to eat paleo while they have total control of their food, but to loosen it up a little before they deploy and will have less choice in what they're eating, so as to minimize the gastric distress from switching to crappier food.

Dude... Do you have any experience with MREs?

They are designed for a very specific type of gastric response... a SLOW one.
                  Blerg.

You can't really prep yourself for that in any meaningful way.
Make good choices when you can... don't sweat it when you can't.
                  That's all.

If you are on 3 MREs a day, it's one thing. If you have a field kitchen cooking breakfast or supper, it's another. If you have a chance to get eggs, boiled or cooked, load up on them and some meat/potatoes in the morning, eat a light MRE lunch and try to be smart at dinner chow, whether MRE or kitchen.

When eating MRE's skip the obvious crap (crackers, pasta, jelly, 'bread', desserts) and go for the better choices (rice, potatoes, meat, peanut butter, 'cheese', salt, tobasco, coffee).

There are 25 MRE choices now!

                    Look at Menu#5:

                    Mediterranean Chicken
                    Cornbread stuffing
                    Dried fruit
                    Cheese spread
                    Vegetable crackers
                    First Strike Bar
                    Beverage, carbo electro
                    I'd eat all that.

                    Look at Menu #7

                    Beef Brisket
                    Garlic mashed potatoes Cookies
                    Cheese spread
                    Crackers
                    Candy I
                    Beverage, carbo electro
Eat it all except the crackers and candy and trade those for some cheese.

                    Look at Menu #12

                    Spicy Penne Pasta
                    Toaster pastry
                    Pudding
                    Peanut butter
                    Wheat snack bread
                    Beverage, carb electro
This would be good to trade for something...anything...

Anyway, have fun and don't sweat it too much. You'll figger it out.
