  • Pan fried plantains, primal?

    It's a very typical dish in many latin american countries (we call them tostones), it's extremely easy to prepare and they are delicious, but I'm not sure if it's paleo or not. All you do is fry them and add salt, I don't deep fry them because I don't want to waste oil, so I just pan fry them in coconut oil, I'm sure beef tallow or other fats would work just fine too.

    I only have them once or twice a week because I am still in my weight loss phase, but I'm still not sure if they are primal or not.

    Everything I've read say they are. I've got one on my window ledge ripening, to have a sweeter one

            Yea, fried plantains rule! I recommend slicing them about 1/4 inch thick or so and frying them in coconut oil. Then finish them with a little cinnamon and you've got yourself a great primal dessert!
            I happened to be watching the travel channel the other day and saw that there is a restaurant that actually uses fried mashed plantain fritters as burger buns! Now I've GOT to try that!

              I make tostones in bacon grease. And they are as awesome as they sound.

              1 plantain is about 50 g of carbs, so not a big deal as an occasional thing.
