  • Dark Rum or Vodka?

Hi everyone! Been reading Mark's posts about alcohol but I havent gotten the answer I'm looking for yet! What is better to drink (with soda, of course): dark rum or vodka? why? Thanks!!!!!

Hard liquors are retry much the same, it's your personal preference really. It's empty of nutrition and gluten so it's up to you what your poison is. I prefer the taste of gin myself.

I sometimes react to grain alcohol, so it would be rum for me.

I like both, especially potato vodka, but Damiana's right - it's pretty much all the same once it's on the inside. If you're grain sensitive, a grain based vodka might be an issue, but there are alternatives. Either way, have what you want and chalk it up to your 20%.

For some reason I get "hangover" from hard liquors that comes from potatoes, so I stick with Rum, Whiskey and Cognac...

I personally can't stand either. If I'm having hard liquor, it's high end tequila, whiskey, or scotch. Every once in a blue moon I'll have a dry martini. I realize this doesn't answer your question, but there it is.

Soda? Why spoil a good thing?

Clear spirits. Silver tequila, though tequila snobs seem to think this isn't good. (Who cares what they think?) And vodka. Hardly any hangover. No additives to speak of. Zilch on the carbs.

I would say rum, but that's also just a personal preference. Vodka and I are not friends, and I feel that the taste just does not mesh with sodas. There is a reason why rum and coke is the classic combo.

Vodka's great in a Harvey Wallbanger but dark Rum is a bit like single malt Whisky in that there's a lot of different flavours to enjoy. I see the choices as swings and roundabouts. I go for taste as opposed to "which is better health wise?" but you may feel differently.

Dark rum, the darker the better. My go-to drink these days is Kraken dark spiced rum (47% abv). Club soda, cola, Dr. Pepper, rocks, or neat, it's all good. If you're going to mix make sure not to mix too weak or the cola takes away from the rum flavour - add ice instead if you don't want it strong.

If your asking from a toxin and hangover prevention standpoint, go with vodka or tequila. Also make your own soda, using sparkling mineral water (S. Pellegrino), vanilla extract and stevia. Also, please don't drink to get drunk, otherwise don't worry about your choice of alcohol.

What's wrong with soda? Soda water ("club soda") is what's being referring to, I'm guessing...
