  • Scott F made a point earlier that I want to expand on a little if I can.

The idea that Science has an underlying materialistic basis. This means that when scientists are trying to discover new things, they explicitly rule out supernatural causes as possibilities. I think that this happens and is a basis for science, and I agree that this is the way things should be.

The problem with NOT having materialistic underpinnings for scientific enquiry is that it's too easy to use a spiritual 'cop out' as an explanation for events. Why does the sun revolve around the earth? Because God said so. It's intellectually lazy, and also, flat out wrong. How did the universe arise? God made it. These sorts of answers are born of ignorance and prevent people from furthering their understanding of the universe.

This doesn't mean that God doesn't exist. Just that science confines itself to the things that it can explain, rather than the supernatural.

          • Some close their minds to Jesus because they don't believe in the "Book",
Others close their minds to Jesus because they do believe in the "Book"

There is no denying that Jesus was a great bloke, maybe a prophet even,
I keep an open mind so that I can draw on the wisdom of all the great prophets, Jesus, Budha, Mohamed, Ezekiel, Einstein, Kepler etc and the list goes on, although if I had to choose one, it would be Murphy, he seems to get it right nearly 100% of the time.

There is nothing complicated about that. The official explanation is more complicated because it defies all logic, common sense, science, and is full of unanswered holes. Whoever wrote the script for that needs to be the one fired. It's like something out of a shitty drama on USA network(NCIS)

                    Did you watch the video?

                    • I've seen the first version. I'm not sitting through it again. If you really think that the U.S. government was involved in the 9/11 attacks, that the Trade Center was a controlled demolition, that the Pentagon wasn't hit by Flight 77, that Flight 93 did not really crash, that Bin Laden's claim of responsibility was faked etc., etc., I'm not going to attempt to disabuse you of those notions. Plenty of time has already been wasted debunking the claims of these films.

                        • Various journalists, academics, actual experts in the relevant fields, and even individuals quoted in the films themselves (all easily found on the Internet for anyone who bothers to Google). But does it matter? That's all just further evidence of a massive, worldwide conspiracy involving thousands of people, right? I know how these things work...

Oh yes, if course! The publication Popular Mechanics is actually a government front. Journalists, activists, and actual experts the world over have been paid, blackmailed, whatever, to keep them from exposing the "truth." Hundreds were tricked (or perhaps bought???) into claiming that they saw a giant fucking plane crash into the Pentagon. This goofy conspiracy would have required the cooperation of thousands. Maybe someday one of them will crack this shit wide open!

                              • If you watch the videos, maybe you'd see that the so called experts did change their minds or they were fired. As, in, the guy who designed the infrastructure.

Though, if you have an explanation for where the debris, and everything else supposedly went, I'd love to hear it. Or, you know, how the wings of the plane supposed clipped several things without breaking and then just disappeared without leaving any damage to the land around it.
